View Full Version : Commercial question....

I have a business-type question, I hope I'm asking in the right place. I had an opportunity to create some "illustrations" for a seminar, using photographs I took and then edited in PSE (yea! I'm actually getting better).

Anyway, it amounted to about 60 illustrations and took me roughly 100 hours. We forsee a small & specific group of people requesting digital copies of the illustrations and we have no idea what their market value would be. We don't want to mark the price way up, but we would like to make a small profit on them since up to this point, I've been working for free. But I don't have ANY idea what the going price for this kind of work is. I've seen digital scrapbooking graphics that go for roughly $5 per package of 15 elements, downloadable. Is that a good comparison? They will be available ONLY in disc format, not downloadable. So there's another minor cost to add to the price.

And is there any sense in getting a copyright on them?

Sorry if I'm asking tis in the wrong place,

Hi Lizzy ...

I don't think that the scrapbooking graphics is a good example for your sort of pricing ... although it really depends on the market and how available the images are elsewhere.

The scarcer they are the more you can change ... scrapbook kits are readily available so they tend to be cheap. Although professional ones on a disc do tend to be more ... I have seen then for $25 to $30

I would put a copyright symbol on them ..

I see what you're saying, that makes sense, Wendy. When you say I should include the copyright symbol... do you mean on every illustration or just on the package in general?

Hi Lizzie ...

Probably a symbol (maybe in one corner) on each image :)
