I am making a collage for my daughter and started out with a creation. I have it almost all together but want to change the color of the drop shadow from gray to the purple in the border but can't figure out how to pull it off. Could someone tell me how to do this?

I have attached the picture so you can get a look at what I am talking about.

Thanks!

Hi ...

How did you do the drop shadow ... did you apply it as a layer style ?

Hi Wendi,

I started with File>Create>New Photo Layout then selected 3 Tiled as the layout and Simple Soft Edge as the theme. From there I added the images, another canvas to get the edge, and a text layer.

Thanks!

Hi Dan ...

I am on the Mac at the moment so I can't access PSE5 ..

Hopefully one of the Windows users will be able to check it out for you :)

That's a tricky one because the drop shadow is part of the frame and not a layer style so you can't edit it. One work around is to change the frame to no frame (Artwork>Frames and double click on No Frame with one of the frame layers selected. That will keep the layout but you can then apply a drop shadow layer style to individual frames in any size and colour you want. Won't look quite the same but it is quite a lot more flexible than using the standard frames.

Tony

PS: After you've changed frames, right click and "fit frame to photo" to get the new frame to fit the existing image.

Here's another workaround, Dan,

This isn't really a drop shadow, but you can get pretty close to it.

In this case I am illustrating by using the color in the dress:

The procedure is explained in detail as part of the technique covered in the Video, "Border Breakout" (in the subscriber section).

Make a copy of your background layer; use that copy for any adjustments desired. Then, make a blank layer above that layer.

On the background copy: Select All

Then move up to the blank layer (the selection is active) and fill that layer with the desired color (make it your foreground color before Edit > Fill Selection)

Now drag that layer down below the background. Then, with that filled layer active, apply a Gaussian Blur - pretty heavy (mine is probably too heavy).

Now use Free Transform to "move the blur" to get whatever you want.

Because I made "my blur" too big, there is spill over around the top and left side. The only thing I can think of is to merge the top 2 layers and use the eraser to get rid of some of it.

This is just one idea - others here will have more.

Thanks to all for their advice. This worked out well. I was able to get the blur effect I was looking for.
