Is it better to use "Screen" than to lighten the image with an adjustment layer?

It's never "better" to do something one way or another - the technique you use is dictated by the image or the look you're after.

- that's the beauty of PSE - there's no right or wrong way to do things, and there are often numerous ways to accomplish the same end. The more you know (and try and use) the better off you'll be, instead of not doing something a certain way because someone said it's better a different way.

"Screen" is such a quickie that it's always worth a try. If it doesn't do what you want it to do, back up and try another way. Like Grafi says, there's usually another way to do something.

Must admit that I use screen more than any other way ... I like how you cab lower the opacity to adjust the effect ..

... but its certainly not better than the other methods ... as everyone else said. Its just different :D :D
