I've uninstalled and reinstalled Flash Player from this site - also updated Windows Media Player. I have a reasonable broadband connection.

I run ZoneAlarm firewall.

When I try to run a lesson video it still says 'Streaming' and does nothing!

most annoying as it will mean I can't view any lessons over Easter, and also I don't have PSE on my work computer.

I see they are SWF files. When I look in Control Panel it says it cannot open SWF files as it doesn't know which program created it. Adobe Flash Player does not appear on the list of programs on my computer, yet it is there (Active-X) in add/remove programs. I have installed and uninstalled it at least five times. My friend suggested installing an earlier version, but any attempts to do this take me to the version 9 download. Any ideas?

Ann, I see that Adobe wants to install for you, not let you download the installation program. I wonder if that, combined with your firewall, is the problem? Maybe there's a spot you can go to download the exe file, then disconnect from the 'Net and disable firewall to install....?

Here's a site that has the download file you can put on your desktop.

WinPlanet (http://cws.internet.com/file/11776.htm)

You might try disconnecting from the Internet after downloading this file, then turn off the ZoneAlarm and try to install. A little risky, of course...

By any chance do you have Shockwave installed on your laptop? It's also by Adobe and may be what you need:

The difference between the Macromedia Flash and Shockwave Players

Flash and Shockwave Players are both free web Players from Adobe. Together, they bring you the best rich media content on the Internet. Each has a distinct purpose. Flash Player delivers fast loading front-end web applications, high-impact web site user interaction, interactive online advertising, and short to medium form animation.

Shockwave Player displays destination web content such as interactive multimedia product demos and training, e-merchandising applications, and rich-media multi-user games. Through Xtras, Shockwave Player is also extendable to playback custom-built applications.

You can download it from here (http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/).

I followed the steps outlined above, but still no success. I've tried running it under Firefox.

I see that what I queried about File options is the same on my work computer where it does ork, so that is not the problem.
