I like them, especially the last one. How did you do it?

thank you for your responses to my update.

Ann --
I took the original photo and used my normal work flow i.e.
levels adjustment, hue/sat adjustment, noise reduction, sharpening etc.

I then used the Orton technique -- basically making your image look kind of foggy and sharp at the same time
1 copy your inage to a new layer
2 change the blend mode of that layer to screen
3 copy that layer and apply about a 30 or so Gaussian blur change the blend mode to darken or color burn
4 adjust the opacities of the 2 copied layers til your happy with the effect

then I do a {ctrl alt shift e} to combine all that to a single layer
using your rectangle marquee tool with the feather set at about 50 pixels
select the portion of your photo you want to feature
{ctrl j} to copy that selection to it's own layer
add a new layer below the selection layer you just made
fill that new blank layer with white
select the layer with the cropped image on it
merge down {ctrl e}
filter gallery I use d3 layers of filtering
1 accented edges
2 dry brush
3 texture (i used canvas)
you'll have to play with the settings to get the look you want

I got the Orton effect idea from one of the Editors choice images by
Ludana .... I wasn't happy with the reults that I got (probably not quite the right image to use I guess) so that's why I used the filter gallery to see if I could make something more of it ....
The filter gallery combos I used were featured in a video tutorial here in applying a painterly effect.

Rusty

Thanks for the compliment I see that the powers that be agreed with your opinion and honored me with being one of the editors choices for this week.
But I'll give you the first accolades. Thanks! Did you like the pups in the collage in the last update?

Thanks Kim ... the puppies are getting to be a handful.. they seem to have worked out a system ... when keeps me busy while the other is off doing something naughty.

I wish I had some nice Spring flowers to snap some photos of ... all those wonderful flower images I've been seeing in here lately ... and just last night we got another 12 -15 inches of snow ....:twisted:

heheh anyway thanks!
