Hi

How the heck do you do a double shadow layer effect?

I was doing the tut with the inner shadow and was trying to do one from both sides/angles. As soon as I changed one layer style effect they both changed. I'm sure I have done this somehow before .. maybe in my dreams :)

Thanks for any ideas,
Gary.

Gary - you have to simplify the layer first then apply the new layer style - or that's the way I did it last time I tried :?

Thanks.

I must be messing up or something. I tried that and it didn't work. I might have to go back to basics, and try without too many layers. It was sort of an afterthought, so there was some other stuff going on. :?

Gary, after you simplify and re-apply the style you need to open the style options menu and change the angle of the lighting so that it's opposite of the first.... OR just duplicate the first layer (without simplifying) and again change the lighting angle on the second duplicate. I really hate to simplify if i don't have to....once you simplify there is no going back and re-adjusting...ya know ? I don't like that feeling

...I mean to add..if you choose the ' duplicate layer ' method that already has a non simplified shadow...be sure to uncheck 'global lighting' before you attempt to change the lighting angle. One of those things that is so auto to me that I forgot to mention it.

Thanks Jodi: When I tried it I kept getting the same lighting angle on duplicate layers which is why I simplified. Now I know what that global lighting check box really does. What was happening makes a lot more sense now

PS I hate simplifying too so I kept a saved version pre-simplifying - so was able to go back and uncheck that box and see that it worked just like you said!

Thanks

I tried simplifying (last night) on a 3 layer file and it worked ok. I must be doing something wrong with my original. I'll try the global light thing tonight after work.

Arrrrrg

I tried to not simplify ..copied the layer... got the angle to change but can only see the top layer... so can only see one corner shadow whithout setting the blending mode to multiply or darken.

I've tried checking and unchecking global lighting..that makes the angle go back and forth..at least for me.

What step am I missing?

Thanks, Gary

Gary - when I did it, it was on a selection with a transparent background and I was doing outers not inners. I could see that Inners would be a problem unless there's a blend mode trick you can use. Hopefully someone will have the answer.
