Changing the colour of a layer mask thumbnail

I have been at this too long today and can't remember how to change the colour of a layer mask thumbnail from white to black.......or maybe I've never done this before.......I just can't remember. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Depending on your F/g and B/g colours, with the layer mask active, either ctrl backspace or alt backspace.

You can also press Ctrl+I..PC or Command+I on a Mac

What GaryK said - remember that filling with white reveals all underneath it; filling with black hides all that's beneath it.
