Hi. I've been looking through the forums for some information but can't find what I'm looking for. Sorry if I've just missed it and this is a repeat question. I'm preparing photos for a stock site that requires a minimum file size of 1 megabyte. When I'm working on a photo as a psd file it's usually around 7 or 8 megabytes, but when I save it as a jpeg it almost always shrinks to under 1 megabyte. I'm saving at the highest level possible, so I'm not sure how to make it stay over the 1 mg limit. I don't know what the other options mean (baseline, etc), but am wondering if one of them would do the trick. Anyone know what I should do? Thanks for your help.

What was the size of the original jpeg from the camera? That's the best guide as to whether your file will be high enough resolution to submit. The psd files are always much much larger and aren't any guide as to the final jpeg size. If you've shot the image with the highest resolution on your camera and minimum compression (or used uncompressed TIF or RAW) and haven't cropped too severely you should be able to get a 1Meg jpeg.

Thanks, Tony , for the quick response. It only shoots in jpeg. I just realized that though I've been taking pics at the highest megapixel settings, I've been shooting at "normal" instead of "fine", which would have given me the larger files I need. I haven't had the camera that long, (Fuji FinePix 3800), but already I'm dreaming of bigger and better. It was great for family photos, etc. but now that I'm uploading to stock sites I'm finding it very limited. But...a bigger and better camera needs a bigger and better computer, so it will have to wait for awhile.
Thanks for your time, Dianne

That should do it! I know with my Fuji there's a huge difference between Normal and Fine - Normal are about half the size of Fine - but bigger xD cards are a lot cheaper than new cameras and computers

....always works that way doesn't it ? Well, I've been making do with my s5000...considering how much less expensive it was than the big boys I'm quite satisfied for now...key words = ' for now ' ;) I'll be sticking with Fuji tho....love the color capture !

I'm having some trouble understanding file sizing for istock.com
I'd rather ask you guys....would someone explain to me the term upsampling? How is this done? It's not allowed and I don't want to do it by accident.
Thanks
By the way I am still uploading to their site. I've had 25 images accepted and I have another 25 in the queue. Not a money maker but it's fun and good experience.
I'm curious Turnstone....what stock site are you working with?
Thanks

Upsampling is the resample option in Elements to increase the resolution "artificially" - so if the camera produced a 10x8 at 250 dpi with resampling turned off and you resampled to give a 10x8 at 300 dpi that would be considered upsampling I believe.

CLuckhart.....I'm currently submitting to Shutterstck, Bigstockphoto, Dreamstime and Canstockphoto. I have small numbers of pics on each site because I just started in June. I'm gradually building them up and am hoping one day to make enough money at least to get some new equipment. It's a lot of work for very little return but for now it's more about the experience and the great education I'm getting from other contributors to the sites. I'm not very good yet, but learning all the time.

Tony W...now I'm going to quick your butt ! You put the s9000 idea in my head and now I'm thinking I want it. I rarely 'want' anything and thank goodness for that cause when i do...watch out !! You are so going to get it ! I don't have 700 bucks for a new camera !!! GRRRRR

Jodi: Wait a while - I'm hoping to get one to test - and I want to read some independent reviews. Also when the s7000 first appeared there were a few problems with the firmware (the batteries would run down overnight). It seemed to take Fuji a few months to sort it out so think spring :D

Spring ? You expect me to keep 'wanting' t'il Spring ? Not sure i can manage that ;) Yup, but i try not to put too much stock into reviews...I know how they can be the 'underdog' group ;)
