View Full Version : Post your spring flowers!

March 29th, 2007, 08:53 PM
A couple of others have mentioned threads in the past for spring flowers, so I thought I'd start one for 2007!:)

I got home from work today and found some of my tulips blooming. The light was great on this one. (I used the instructions Lundana posted on this (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21579&highlight=lundana)thread for the Orton effect, but changed the blend modes.)

Add your spring flowers to this thread!

Like Kim's, mine's in another thread but posting here too.

And of course, it's our autumn so flowers are few and far between. But now's the time we put our tulip bulbs in the fruit and vegie section of the refrigerator trying to fool them :D into thinking the Aussie spring (September) is not too hot to show us their gorgeous blooms.

Hi folks,
Here's my Spring Flower. I'm glad I got this shot when I did because the bush in the photo is now under a whole lot of snow and I can't tell if the blooms are still there. Might be a good photo there, anyway...

I have no idea what plant this is :)

OK...I know its not flowers, but these berries only come out on this bush in the spring. And we had had a hard rain overnight, leaving everything covered with the water droplets, which (I think anyway) makes a nice touch.

We've had some beautiful blooms this winter, even though it was below freezing for a week. Camellias bloom when the plant is dormant, I'm told. Anyway, here is one I got a photo of on one really cold day about a month ago.

Camellia http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1wrCKa3Lexetw7Tm4IZMCNGAFs8SC1_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1wrCKa3Lexetw7Tm4IZMCNGAFs8SC1) Iceland Poppy http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1FcieyyzUVrv5jNAXFBpHRLxLUPK1_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1FcieyyzUVrv5jNAXFBpHRLxLUPK1)

My tulip blooms are about gone and I didn't get any photos of them. The iceland poppies are going strong, along with the pansy and snapdragons. They all survived the freeze and are the best I have ever seen them. My calla lilies are blooming but are not as healthy looking after being nipped by Jack Frost. I lost my huge passionflower and bougainvillea vines, rubber tree plant, and ficus to the freeze. I'm really bummmed! I am sooo glad winter is over here in California.

After he got done making trouble at your place, Jack Frost visited Tracy and killed our bougainvillea, too... and he really chomped on our little sago palms' leaves!! I did everything except put an electric blanket over 'em...

At least the roses seem to have enjoyed getting their toes cold, and are really bursting out in force!

Neat Anita,
I don't think I've ever seen a pink one before. Ours is white, but hasn't bloomed yet.

These actually aren't spring flowers but they sure are pretty when the cactus are in bloom -- the bees just love them.

Thanks, Carol. I had a great time that morning, watching and shooting. The bee was oblivious to my presence, even when I used fill flash on some shots.

Sometimes nature is overwhelmingly beautiful.

(BTW, the URL that Carol posted has two links for some reason. The left side has "http://www.pixentral" and then there's "com/hosted/19gumvv...etc" which leads to a thumb of my photo. Very strange, to me, anyway:confused: )

Think they blew away. Sun did come out today for a little while. Heard more rain Thursday. Will it ever stop, or will temperatures go from 45 to 90 overnight? So much for Spring.

Same rose taken at 4 different angles. Mainly practicing making frames on this one. The pics were taken in bad (harsh) light.

Not very colourful but the raindrops showed up better this way. We have had pouring rain, sun, pouring rain and sun all day. I took a short walk in one of the sunny periods and came up with this.

I often do Border Breakouts. I have never had the imagination to do a Breakin. It's wonderful. I will remember this if I ever have such an appropriate image.

With this crazy weather this year still no flowers here in Mid-west Michigan. My poor Mr. Lonely didn't survive the snow and cold last week. Had to cheat for this one, store bought. But it is pretty so I thought I would post it.

Kim,

Thanks for starting the flower thread. Not only are the pictures wonderful but I'm also learning the names of some flowers I didn't know.

Unfortunately, we had an unexpected cold snap last week and all of mine got ZAPPED! Here's a pic from my gallery that I took last year.

I am beginning to wonder if the the flowers are ever going to get a chance to bloom here. The Tulip Time Festival in Holland, MI is only a few weeks away and they are probably going to have to bring in tulips for it.

Shari

I just got it from Creative Photoshop Mag.. quite simple in theory albeit a little slow on the application. I added a bit and still have to learn some of the finer points.

Basically
Take your photo
Make a pattern of it
Add a new white layer on top of your background photo (lower opacity so you can see through a bit)
Pick the pattern stamp tool and choose your newly created pattern
Paint with one of the watercolour brushes.. done

I did a find edges on another copy of the background layer and removed the colour to get the "pencil" lines dragged it to the top of the stack and used soft light blend also added texturre once I was done.:)

Looks good.:)

What part were you struggling with?

It was a 4 or 5 page tut so I basically just touched on the basics.
I still have to sort out how the different watercolour brushes react and they also used 3 or so different patterns (just lighting/colour adjustments to the original) so I have a long way to go.:)

No spring flowers in my garden, but we went out a couple of weeks ago to a local stately home & gardens where I took quite a few images...

I used this Camelia for a few different techniques so decided to combine into one image:

And who asked for Daffodils? These ones have had the Orton Effect applied:
