I have a question regarding the organizer and the use of a network drive.

I have pse5 on the laptop and my desktop, I have both computers networked. The desktop has a much lager hard drive in it thus, I keep most of the pictures on that computer.

I can access all of the pictures on the desktop from the laptop and can load them into the organizer edit them and then save them back on to the desktop hard drive. Is there a way to keep the organizer on the laptop from freaking out when the laptop is not connected to the home network?

You know when there is a little broken picture is at the bottom of the image and if you try to access any of those pictures the organizer goes searching seemingly aimlessly around for the pictures.

What I would need to know is there a way to convince the organizer, that the network drive is actually a 'removable' media type of thing?

I'd be interested in getting some more info on using Elements (mine's 4) on a home network.

I am certainly not one of the techie's on this site.
But, it really is very simple. If your desktop is not on and that is where your images are stored then the organizer cannot find the images. So when you get the broken image and the searching, the organizer is doing what it was designed to do.

I have my images networked to an external for both the desktop and my laptop. It can be frustrating when I forget to turn on the desktop. :(

"Is there a way to keep the organizer on the laptop from freaking out when the laptop is not connected to the home network?"

In the Organizer Preferences > Files - there is a check box for "automatically search for and connect missing files". If you uncheck that box, it might help you.

I have avoided using Networked drives for my photos, so I can't be sure of the scope of that control. However, it seems worth a try.

Well as requested the organizer initially does not freak out:)
but if you happen to try to edit it, then of course it will put the broken link indicator on that frame, and ask to try to locate that file.
