I understand from past threads that PE5 should use any available fonts that you have loaded already on your OS.
For some reason, this does not hold true for me. I am running the new Vista and am wondering... is this the problem? I've already run the update for PE5 & Vista and that hasn't helped anything.
How can I use the fonts that are there? Even the simple Arial Black is not available for me to use.
If anyone has any solutions - I'd be oh, so grateful!!!

Hi ...
It could be that not a lot of forum members have upgraded to Vista yet :)

Well, surely Vista isn't that different than XP. Are you sure you have them loaded in the "fonts" directory under windows?

Hi mstuart,
Do you mean that you can't make text at all? What happens when you try? Is the font menu blank? Could you post a screen cap for us?
I'm not a Vistoid either, but it's hard to imagine having all your fonts evaporate.

I do have some text... I believe possibly the text that originally came with the program. But others that I add-on into my fonts directory doesn't show up in Elements. But not just the ones I add - a simple example is Arial Black. I have Arial and Arial Narrow in Elements, but no Arial Black and this is a font that does show up in my fonts list in the Windows directory. According to other posts in the past, Elements retrieves all the fonts from your Windows directory... it would be nice to be able to use different fonts (it seems that what I've been left with are almost all the same.) But at least I do have 20-30 fonts to use for now.
I did take some time to see if the fonts directory on Windows Vista was in a different location... nope, that is the same.
Other than this snafu - to be honest, I enjoy Vista a lot. I thought I would hate it since we were using the Beta version and that didn't go well at all. :D
Vistaites - hehe

Just a query.. is Vista coming with the new Open Type (or whatever they are called) fonts??
I wonder if Elements is not seeing those.

Maybe that is the problem? Vista does use the OpenType fonts... Hmm, a person would think that Elements would see them since Adobe did help to produce them. But ya never can tell. :)

I haven't had any problems with fonts as of yet. PSE5 seems to be working OK for me. I have installed a few fonts and no trouble... now if I could figure out about 25 other things that has made my computer life complicated since upgrading to vista :)
I think Vista has made everyone's computers temperketal in different ways.
Sorry I couldn't help you more.

Thanks everyone for all of your help and advice and especially to GaryK!!! :D
It does seem to be an issue that Elements 5.0 still does not recognize the OpenType Fonts and only seems to see the TrueType. I ran a test, and yep, sure enough - that was the issue.
So, for all of you Vistaites - download TrueType fonts for now until a patch is available for that.

I do believe it is the open type fonts causing your problem. I loaded one at work on our Vista machine and Elements didn't see it, so I went and looked for the true type version and voila, there it was.
