View Full Version : Corey's Creative Course Question

Well I know I haven't been around lately, but I'm back and already have a dumb question on Corey's Creative Technique course. In day 1 he has a Black to White gradient that he uses to explain the blend modes. My dumb question is how do I create that type of gradient on a separate layer.
Sometimes I think my brain has gone south...can't remember all these things. If anyone can give me the info on how to do this I would very much appreciate it.

Hi Dorrie-
Welcome back. I don't recall if this is how he did it, but you could set your foreground and background colors to black and white (Press D on the keyboard) and use the Foreground to Background gradient on a new layer.
Does that do it?

Mike,
Thanks for trying to help, but that doesn't do it. I already tried your way and all you get is a graduated gradient, not a step by step gradient. Corey refers to the gradient as a Standard Step Gradient.

Dorrie... I wanted to say it had a step to it.
Someone asked when the class first started. I'm sorry... I don't know if they ever got an answer.

Kimi..
I searched some threads on the course for an answer, but was unsuccessful. If you know of the the thread, can you point me to it. I'm really puzzled by this.

Bummer. So much for the easy one. I'll have to go back and watch Day 1, to refresh my memory. Our school district blocks streaming video due to bandwidth issues, so it'll have to be at home some time, and I'm not sure if I'll have a chance tonight. Hopefully someone else will happen along in the mean time to help you with a solution.

Dorrie, I looked. Can't find it. But, I don't think the person ever did get an answer. Who knows... maybe someone will have one.

Dorrie, if she responds to you before I get a chance to watch Day 1 again, would you post her answer here? I'm curious. Sure wish I could get streaming here at work...
Thanks,
Mike

Hi everyone ...
I have actually done this before and made a grey card ... but I can't remember how it was done.
Leave it with me and I will see if I can find out ...

Hi ...
I haven't done the course so I'm not sure if this is what you mean or not.
Create a new file ... mode greyscale.
Then set your foreground colour to Black and the background to white ... drag a gradient out across the file.
Then do Filter<Adjustments>Posterize ... and set if for the number of bands you want in the gradient ..
Is that the sort of thing you mean ??

Thanks Wendy, That's what I was after. The Filter<Adjustments>Posterize did the trick. The gradient special effects does not produce the same effect, at least for me it didn't, but thanks wcwtp for your suggestion.:)

Hi Sue ...
The gradient in the first class is in fact the one we came up with :)
