The quality of the rendered slide show is poor. Compared to the original it is not sharp. I have tried different settings and none seem to improve the end result. Both sending to a DVD and to file both results are poor. What am I doing wrong. I have a very good camera so that is not the problem.

Could you post a lot more details of where and how you are creating your slideshow? What versions of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements are you using? Are you starting from a wmv slideshow produced in Photoshop Elements and sending it over to Premiere Elements? Or, are you doing your slideshow completely in Premiere Elements? Other? Specifically, what settings have you varied to try to help the situation? Have you tried to trace the path from creation of slideshow to slideshow on DVD to figure out where things go bad.

With added details, Forum users can help you pin point where the problem occurs and suggest a possible solution.

Sorry I guess I,m a bit frustrated. I have PE 5 and Premier 3. I rendered everything to a wmv file at highest resolution. I even copied to a DVD through Premier 3, same results. I tried lowering the resolution but there was no change. I can run a slide show from creations and the quality is excellent but you lack all the disolves that slide show offers. Not sure how to trace the path from creation to slideshow that would give me some insite as to the problem. Hope this helps.

Since you have PSE 5 and PRE 3, you can try Sending the slide show to Premiere Elements without first making a WMV file.

My conclusion is that the resulting image quality when playing the DVD on my TV is better when I send the slide show directly to Premiere Elements than when I make an intermediate WMV file. However, you still do need to be aware that the resolution of a DVD (equivalent of 640x480 for NTSC in USA) is significantly lower than the resolution of your computer monitor or camera.

Note: You say that you have downsized the resolution of your photo files in Photoshop Elements and that is good because too many high resolution photos can cause hangs in Premiere Elements. Approx how many photos are you using in this slide show?

Hi Barb: The slide show was quite large over 100 slides. However my testion was done with 4-6 slides so I wouldn't have to wait for the rendering process. The quality as you suggested sending to Premier directly improves a bit. But even viewing the show from the file the quality on my computer is not as sharp as the original even after I reduced the resolution. Am I expecting too much.. I just feel that the image should be as sharp out of the slide show as it is as a stand alone. I can always run the slides out of a collection and maintain the quality but loose the ability to dress it up with various disolves etc. Your comments would be appreciated.

Brian: you might want to try downsizing to the final resolution (640x480) before making the slide show with a couple of slides. Use Bicubic Sharper when you downsize. I've noticed that when doing a big downsize that helps maintain sharpness. Applying a bit more sharpness with Enhance>Sharpness>Lens Blur after downsizing will also help. As Barb says the 640x480 resolution used for DVD's is a big drop from the images you're used to seeing on screen.

Thanks Tony: I tried what you suggested. Quality improves a bit. Maybe I'm expecting results that are not available with Elements. I have seen slide shows where the quality is incredible and that is the benchmark I am looking for. Whether it be for DVD or just on my computer? When I reduce the image to 640X 480 I am looking at a 2-3 inch size, is this correct or is there something I am not doing correctly.
