Howdy:
I would like to print an image that will look like a 4 X 5 negative contact print. You know the effect is like a border or frame. The question is how can I make it or is there a border or frame available like that and where?
My thanks to all.

Don,
Can you link to an example of what you're trying to make? It would help people (like me!) who can't visualize what you're describing.

Dear Byron:
When you do a 4x5 negative film contact the edges print like uneven soft dark grayish lines. There was a photographer that did some 16x20 or 20x24 portrait prints with that effect all the pictures had white background but I can't remember his name at all. I saw those images on a photography magazine some time back, I think the subjects were regular people if I'm not mistaken. hope someone will remember him.
Thank's,
don

Hi Don Diego - Could you look through the galleries and see if there is anything similar to what you are trying to do? Even if it is something close, it will help people who want to help you! If you find a picture that is similar, highlight the web address, copy it, and paste it into your post. Then people can find it. Andie

What you are describing is the edge of the film that was never exposed to light in the camera, so when you process the negative you get a 1/8" darkish gray border around it.
This was the norm for large format film cameras.
Now I have shown my edge.

My guess is that the frame you saw was probably done with Extensis Photoframe - that's now in a package available from OnOne (PhotoFrame Pro (http://www.ononesoftware.com/detail.php?prodLine_id=10)) but it is rather expensive for what you probably want. There used to be a cheaper Elements version but I don't see it listed there now so it may have been rolled into the frame collection in the Elements Esssentials package that is coming from them soon and that might meet your needs (and has some other interesting stuff too):

On the other hand it wouldn't be too hard to do it yourself if you know what effect you want.

I remember the 4x5 sheet film as having three notches on the 4" edge so it could be loaded in the cassette with the emulsion facing the correct way(those were the days!) I have some 4x5 slides at home I could scan for an example if no one else finds a frame, just send me an email to let me know.

I honestly don't remember if the free 30-day trial of PhotoFrame Pro has the frame you are looking for. But if you think you might only want it for a few pics, the trial version might be worth checking out. The price is right, anyway....
Vicki
BTW: It does look like the Elements version has been included, in its entirety, in the new Elements Essentials plugin set. The price for the whole shebang is the same as the frame package alone for Elements was--looks like a terrific deal for those with PSE 4 or 5 (or PSE3 for Mac only).

Hi Tony and others:
I took a look at the oneonone package and I'm going to buy it. I have an assignment to photogragh over 100 persons and i wanted to do them all with that border as to simplify my exposure, settings, etc.,etc. I'll continue shooting may be by the end of it I'll be able to find it. So thank's to all.
I'm now going to post a question for you all as a new post. What is the best image editing software set up?
Hope to hear from you all.

Byron and others:
Last night i saw Medic1210 (Mike Curtis) beautiful image of his daughter "Backlit portrait" on the gallery section and that is the closest thing to it.
Mike would you let us know how you did it?
