 I am in desperate need of help for the first class in layers. I am not totally ignorant of Photoshop elements, but you sure wouldn't know it from this past week-end. I checked here and saw that bikerbob was having similar problems and used what Linda and Tony said. It was helpful, but I'm still having trouble. I do feel like a total idiot, but I can't keep one picture of flowers on top of the first one, just like in the class, so I can erase, juse like in the class. I can't seem to get that plus sign either that Matt talks about. Basically, I failing the first class. I'm sure most of you will understand the kind of week-end I had since I'm sure it is a simple solution, but I couldn't figure it out. I went to Photoshop help, which was no help, found out today I wasn't registered in here, so that was another frustration all week-end long. Basically, I need help putting one picture on top of the other, which one be layer 1 on the background, and then erasing part of layer 1 so the background shows through. Thanks sooooo much. I'm calming down since I am able to get into here finally. You're saving my life!!!

Hi ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
First make sure that you have Elements set to Cascade (Window>Images>Cascade).
Then open both of the images.
Make sure that you can see onscreen the image that you want to add to the other.
Click on that image and drag it down into the Photobin onto the image that you want to add it too.
... that should get them both in the same file for you :)

thanks Wendy, I'll try that. If that doesn't work, please check back tomorrow. I have to go to work in a few minutes. I just finished 3 digital scrapbook pages, but I'm using Hewlett Packarett, s.p.? Can't wait to bring it to elements. Thanks again.:)

It worked Wendy, but I'm not sure how it did. When I followed your directions to make sure Elements was set to Cascade, it was lightened out for me. Very frustrating. So I went ahead and put my pictures in, after I'd listened to the class 3 times again, set up my layers because I forgot that, but according to Matt I couldn't do it his way, I had to click on the bottom right, not on the windows either. Anyway, eventually it all came together! Now I have to practice practice practice, so it looks nice. Thank you so much! barbara::D

Hi Barbara ...
So glad that you managed to do it ...
There are lots of ways to do the same thing in Elements and sometimes people who are just starting out find the way I suggested is a little easier :)

Wendy, I just checked out your gallery. IT'S FANTASTIC!! Did you create all of them in Elements, without a kit? Obviously you've been doing this for a while. I've taken 3 adult ed classes at the college and the organize your pictures here, now the layers class, plus I sell things on ebay, but I'm so lost on elements. I just bought 5, but it's still in the box. I really want to learn more about the layers, and fix some old pictures I have. Then I'm onto digital scrapbooking. I do it now but with kits. Just wanted you to know how Impressed I was with your work. I asked another questions, but put it under another title--good or bad idea? it's about where to get pictures from to put in the layers, my files, a dics, or the ones in the elements orgaizer. So glad to meet you. barbara:) :)

Barbara,
Wendy's right there. I've been following a lot of Wendy's tutorials and after a while I'm getting the hang of how to make things from scratch: some I get the hang of straight away, others take a bit longer but you feel such a sense of achievement! She explains things so well - I'd recommend going through them and ask away about anything you don't understand!

Thanks so much. And thanks for your kindness in helping me out, it is so appreciated!!!:p Thanks also to Bayla!! All help and support is appreciated.;)

Wendy, could you please check out my other question? right now it's under this one, but i know it will move. It's "New ? moving picture for layers class" It's about where is the best place to get pictures from: my own files, the elements organizer, or a back-up disc? Thanks going to check you tutorials. I'm pretty sure I've seen some of them, never tried out of fear, but what the heck, now's the time! I see you live in the UK. I send lots of stuff, scrapbooking there on EBAy. Where do you live? barbara I'm in Detroit, Mi.
