I am new to PSE5 and have been doing some research on the Wacom Pen Tablet. I have noticed that there are a couple of different types. Does anyone use this tool? Any idea which is the better value for the money? Does it perform like the ads states? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Graphire Wacom that is 4x5 (I think) it is enough for doing most things in elements. If you're an artist then getting an Intuos might be the best investment. I expecially like it for fine tuning selections.

Welcome to the forum Orphanannie. I too have the 4x5 Graphire, and for me as a hobbyist, it's fine. I agree with Will though, if you're in this professionally you may want more.
Looking forward to seeing some of your work.

Hello Annie
I've been using the 4X5 Graphire 3 with PSE 3 for a couple of years. The Graphire was the least expensive at the time, less than $100. It's one investment I've never regretted. It took me a little getting used to but right from the start I realized the advantages were easily worth learning to use the pen vs a mouse. I suppose I find the greatest advantage in making detailed selctions. I find making those kind of selections much more natural with a pen.
For my money I can't imagine you'd be disappointed with a pen tablet.
Good Luck

Hi,
I have the Intuos 6x8 and it takes up a lot of space on my desk. The 6x8 was reduced in price by $75.00 and decided to go that route. I must say I like the working area on the 6x8. I really had to flip a coin if to buy the 4x5 Graphire or the 6x8 Intuos. If the price hadn't reduced I would have gone with 4x5.
I would go a local store and try out he different models before buying.
Good luck with your shopping adventure.

Thanxs to all... I am not by no means an artist...just a rookie trying to learn the ropes. Do you find that you have to replace the pen nubs very often? I have been reading the forum for a few weeks now, and have found that you do really reply to questions very fast. Kudos to all of you............ I am sure that I will have lots of questions in the very near future. Thanxs again for the info.....

Welcome to the forum.
I love my 4X5. Using for over a year and 'nub' is fine. I don't use it exclusively but could not be without it for my selections.!!
Good luck, you will love it here.

I use the graphire 4x5 and love it too. I think I got it at Circuit City. it was $99 but then there was a $50 rebate. My mom's birthday present to me!

Hello Annie
Go for the WACOM - whatever your budget will stand, mine is the Intuos 3 and I would not be without it .
Like everyone contempleting something 'New' ,I did my 'Research' and opted for the 8 x 6 - No regrets
I think whatever you do buy, you will work around it and never know if you were missing anything.
I tend to go down the middle route
Not the smallest - Not the biggest
Not the cheapest - Not the most expensive
But go for quality [Wacom !] and for the limit that is affordable
My philosophy [One of them]
If you are going to do it - do it now

Most definitely the Wacom brand, just a great company. I own the Intuos3 6x8 & I wish I purchased it a lot sooner. I still believe they are doing the "try it before you buy it" promo on their site. http://www.wacom.com/productinfo/

Hi Annie,
Welcome to the forum.
I have the Intuos 3 - 6x8 and think it's great. Will admit there is a learning
curve but then I am clumsy..

Hi To All........................ Thanxs again for all of the advice on the Wacom. I did indeed purchased a Graphire4 4x6. Talk about a learning curve, so used to a mouse. Do have one question... When subscribing to the newsletter, about long long does it take for the first issue to arrive and how many issues per year? I am waiting patiently for my first issue.

I have the Intuos3 6x8 and love it. I also have another much older and much larger tablet--Aiptek, I think--that was nothing but a space eater on my workspace!
My daughter likes the large work area of the Aiptek. She is artist trained and draws with big swooping movements so the large working space works well for her.

The nibs take a long time to wear down. I use my tablet all the time and just replaced the nib after 2 years. They do come with extra ones. I actually have two pens. One I keep the regular white nib in and the other I have the grey nib which has more friction like a pencil on paper.
I have an intuos 3 and wouldn't be without it. I love the express keys which makes things quicker and the scroll pad on the one side I have set up to change my brush size. A very handy feature. I have not heard any bad comments about Wacom tablets.

I have the Wacom Intuos 3 and Love it. At the time I purchased both- the 4x5 and the 6x8. Used them both for 2 weeks and I decided on the 4x5. Used up less desk space and less arm movement. They can be mapped to use a smaller smaller area, but I personally liked using the smaller one better. The 4x5 now has been replaced to the 4x6. I am sure 4x5 is available somewhere on line. I think either one you choose you will be very happy.

The FIRST ISSUE takes 6-8 Weeks before you get a copy and then they should show up on schedule. We always start a thread when the new volume arrives and party on until we get our own copy. There are 8 issues per year, but the material available in the subscriber area really makes up the difference.
