I am adding some type on to a photo. The item I am reading from says that if I right click on the type layer in the layers palette I should then select the blending options to add drop shadow and contour, however when I do r.click I get a list of 12 options starting with rename layer. Non of the options is blending option. What am I doing wrong? I am using Elements 4.

The only thing you're doing wrong is reading instructions for Photoshop rather than Photoshop Elements :) . The equivalent in Elements is to apply layer styles - drop shadow and emboss would probably give the same look.

Thanks for the help,Tony. The instructions were from a photo magazine and were supposed to be for both photoshop and elements but obviously are not. I shall email them as I suppose I will not be the only one to be confused. Thanks again for the help. Audrey

Audrey: Glad I could help and I suspected that was the case. I have noticed in the UK (and also in North America) that tutorials get written for Photoshop when they could just as easily be written for Elements and Photoshop. My brother-in-law was complaining about the same thing last time I was over there visiting - I was able to show him that almost all the Photoshop tutorials could easily be done in Elements (especially with some of the freely available add-ins) and yet very seldom did the photo mags mention that fact.

We did have a few theories on why that might be the case but then we both have suspicious minds ;)

Dear Tony, Being a down to earth Yorkshire lass despite now living in Scotland I suspect that your theories are the same as mine! It will be interesting to see what reply if any I get from the magazine, although to be fair I have had email responses from them in the past which was quite a surprise to me. Emails to other mags have just been ignored. I will let you know how it goes.

Dear Wendy, It is Digital Photo Magazine. Last year I sent an email and actually had a lady ring me about part 1 of a series which I had missed. The issue number was out of print and she offered to photocopy the item for me! (Which she did at no expense to me. )I was amazed at this response as usually emails are ignored. Since then I have twice had a response to an email. I have taken out a subscription to this magazine because I find it the best magazine for novices like me.

Hi Audrey ...

I used to get that one a while back but for some reason stopped it ... I will now take another look at it :)
