since I really didn't know where else to post this, I thought this was as good of place as any.. I have some exciting news I wanted to share with all my new best friends. As I have stated in another post, I work at a private preschool for children with and without disabilities in Houston. A couple of years ago a call went out to the Down Syndrome Association Hollywood needed a black male in his 20s with Down Syndrome and no acting experience. We just happened to have a person that fit the bill. The young man's name is Christopher Scott. He landed a starring role in the movie, My Brother. Vanessa Williams is his mother and Nashawn Kearse is his brother. Jodi Foster plays the brother's girfriend. It premieres in 19 cities on Mar. 16. Since he probably will never a wedding or any other major event such as that, his parents are throwing him a Hollywood style party this weekend. The director was so impressed with him, they wrote more lines into for him. He has also recieved an award from the Black Film Festival for his role. If it comes to your city, check it out. The website is www.mybrotherthemovie.com. This is pretty good for someone the Dr.s said would never do more than a 3 yr. old.

That is really great! I'm so glad people are taking notice of others. Sadly in my little burg a movie like this won't be shown, but it is SO great that others can see it.
Thankyou for sharing, I had no idea about the movie.

I think his mom hopes he is finished with the big screen. His parents and siblings had to take turns going with him to New York to shoot and he spoke at the Special Olympics conference in Wash. DC a couple of weeks ago. He had media meetings this past Thurs. and more on Monday. One of the local TV stations came to the school and did an interview with him. They were talking to him like a toddler. They wanted to know all about Vanessa and did he get her autograph and did he have scenes with her. He played the older James so she had died by then... He told them all about that and ended the conversation with " I have her cell phone number." They didn't have a lot more to say after that. It was really pretty funny..

That's wonderful. He's with a great cast. It's got to be good. Vanessa Williams and Jodi Foster don't take bad scripts. That's one I'll have to see. You can be proud.

OOOPS!!! I made a mistake.. Tatum Oneil is Neshawn's girlfriend in the movie, not Jodie foster.. Sorry. When I asked Chris about Tatum being his brother's girlfriend, he said yeah, but she really had the hots for me.. He is so funny.
Yes, we are all proud of him and his family is still reeling from all the news interviews, etc. This is a giant step for the disabled community. His parents are throwing him a Hollywood style party tonight. I a can't wait to go.. Also, the Director at the school we work at found the man who designs the stars for the famous hollywood street, and asked him to make one for Chris. He was presented with it at work Friday. He really doesn't understand the magnitude of all this. I wish I could be as laid back about things like he is.
Have a great day.. Spring break has finally arrived..

Donna,
That is so exciting! Like Ross, I'm sure the movie won't play in my area. Please let us know when it is available to buy, I'd love to see it!:)

I just got home from a party honoring Chris Scott who is starring in the movie. It was so cool. The cast of My Brother with the exception of Vanessa Williams and Tatum O'Neal were there. I have never been to anything like that before. My husband said I remind him of a 3yr old that has been turned loose in a candy factory.LOL I just want to encourage you to go see the movie if it is premiering in your city. It is an independent film so it is going to be relying on opening night audiences. It is rated pg 13. It is a very heartwarming movie.

I went to see the movie Friday night. Chris did a fantastic job as did the 2 boys that played him and his brother when they were younger. Our school had a huge reception for him afterwards. You could see him glowing as everyone told him what a good job he did. He actually had a major part in the movie. Other than some language and a few rough scenes, it was a good movie with a good message. Like his mom said, this is pretty awesome for someone the drs. said wouldn't function any higher than a 3 yr. old. When he was interviewed by one of the local TV stations, he said it shows that anyone could do it and do it better than him. The reporter said,"they can do it better than you and he replied--not that better. He was absolutely wonderful. It is in 19 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada.
