It's almost time for our next class and was wondering who is taking what. This thread was a lot of fun last 'semester'.
Colleen, Michelle..next Collages and Composites?? (me too). I'll try to stay on track this time.
Who else is taking?
I'm heading out early this morning...will check back later.

Colleen, Leave you out...NEVER!, absolutely not! Kim has already mentioned you were in the class. I'll volunteer my car and to drive since I'm farther south, then I'll get Kim, and we can pick up Janet on our way to get you. You'll need to find the directions for Patty.
Now, if there there is snow anywhere ...someone else will have to do the driving:D

Phew! I thought I might get left behind for a while!!!:) I can't afford to go shopping for a new outfit.....I just bought my imac. Won't be eating much either.....well, that's a good thing....maybe I can lose some weight! I can't afford the expensive wine now either, so if I'm buying you will need to acquire a taste for Boones Farm or Night Train! :D

Don't worry about the wine, we'll have plenty of the good stuff. I'll send Bill down to the wine warehouse for a case, before I leave.

To save on cost, with your new iMac, you could always design your outfit and "build" it yourself (build = sewing machine thing... what's the word for that.. ???)

OMAGOSH!!! I just signed up for the Collages and Composits!!! I'm scared to death that I'm Waaaaaaaay out of my league on this one. Plus I'm going to be out this Sunday, when it starts, but hopefully I'll get time one evening during the week to log on and get started.
I am so excited!!!!!
msbrad
March 9th, 2007, 12:05 PM
The one I took was called collages and compo.
Each Sunday, there would be a lesson posted. I would DL it (the zip and the html files) and print the pdf files. (I have to work from a hard copy and read with a high lighter-otherwise -there would be marker on the monitor).:p
then work through the lessons, and post up the link to your homework to where she says to put it. You do need to create a spot for your homework.
I used webshots, others have used smugbug., etc.
There is also a place on eclectic academy for classroom chatting etc. But I never found it, and just used our thread here for all my yakking. There were several from "here" in our class "there" but not all were from PET.
We had fun taking it together. And I learned a lot.
We have another thread (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18111&highlight=Eclectic+Academy), which became a novel:D of our first round.
check there and you will see the different ones people from here were enrolled in.
I work in the week too. In fact I am working now;)

Sure you can work at your own pace.....as long as your pace is FAST!!!:D There is a lot to learn, just at least do some of the reading every day. Don't try to make a masterpiece out of your homework.....Sara doesn't care.....just post whatever you did and ask for feedback if you need it! I am sure you will get an "A" also!:D

Hi Carol,
I'm glad you took the plunge! I just looked at your gallery...great work! I think you won't have any trouble with C&C. You're already doing things beyond what I could do when I started the class. It was more time consuming than I thought it would be, but I managed to get all the homework turned in each week. There are a few lessons where things don't seem to work the way Sara's instructions say they will, but we all found ways around those rough spots and it should still be fairly fresh in our memories so if that happens just ask and one of us will help.
BTW, if you don't already have a place to post your homework on the web and you don't want to set one up, you can put it in your gallery here and just post a link to it. I noticed somebody did that in our first class.

It was recommended to DL Grant's tools. I had a lot of trouble but with everyones help I finally got it done. Have v.5 now so that will be another fiasco getting them DL there:rolleyes: (Geeze...and Michelle thinks she's the slow one!).
Glad you've joined us. We are all here to help!
Oh, I forgot..my homework site (photosite) is full (the free version only holds so much). Will erase a bunch but eventually would like to have a site to organize and keep as a back up. Not sure which though...have not done enough research but have thought about flicka, zonfro (something, not sure sp?) Will just clear out photosite for now I guess to get through this class. I have my password etc. and it is the same..I knew they would feel sorry for me. Mine came through @ 8:13 eastern time.
I will not dip into it until tomorrow. Can't do it now.

Hi Ross,
I use Smugmug, but it's not free. It's a great site for sharing your photos with family and friends, and they can order prints, etc. And it's a good way to have another back-up of your work. You can have multiple galleries and you can make them public or private. Here's my homework gallery from last semester as an example. Take a look around at their site to learn about all the features you get.

Thanks for noticling my idioms// I happen to like Megan and the zipper:D
Norma,
the first part of our HW is to create a pictorial idiom , and she gave us a list, we could...choose from. However my head can run like a freight train, or at least a hampster on a wheel:p
Thinking of "things " is not an issue for me....its figuring out where the H___ to click to make it Happen!! Golley Moses, that is my short straw, for sure! (I've improved)
Poor little Hannah needs to get blue-er- bless her heart, i will fix that for sure ,now that I look again.:o
OK Kim- from me, and you should be prepared by now..
WHEN, you go to pixentral > do the browse> then the send..and then there is a picture,...go underneath it,

Hi Y'all,
Just finished posting my HW over at EA.
I got a bit carried away with the idiom's ...too much fun , and I had to do one with a song title just to drive Janet crazy:p
Bubbles were fun, once I got them. That took a bit.
And...yes, my darling daughter is actually dancing in a real fountain, complete with wet water! She was caught there by the USF newspaper paparazzi. They were out there on a class assignment (dance major-course: modern) however...water and getting wet, was NOT assigned.
In her scrapbook, the page title is "3 Clowns in a Fountain..."

Will they kick me out of class if I'm late with this week's homework. I had a project that I had to finish today and I fully intended to do the homework immediately after that. HOWEVER, for some odd reason, in the middle of the project, I could not use any of my tools, clone, eraser, paint brush, burn, etc. I spent the better part of the afternoon trying to find out what was going on. I even did a system restore. Still not working. (I was using the wacom mouse)
In total desperation, I picked up the pen, which was no where near the pad, and wonders of wonders - it worked. Soooo, I got my old mouse out of the drawer, and Tada - it also worked. I don't know why, but the wacom mouse just will not work on certain tools. It isn't battery operated, so I'm totally baffled!!!
Anyway, did not get to the homework today. And my weekend doesn't look to promising for it either, but I'm really going to try. Can someone tell me what happens if I'm late with it. I'm really upset about all this, I mean my first week of school and all that. . . . just not a good way to start out!!!!

Oh, Carol, do not fret. It will be OK. The "rule" for the HW is: (and I am sure someone will correct me if wrong.)...all HW must be in 10 days after lesson #6 is posted". so that means...you have until the Wednesday at dark, after the last week to have it all in. Then our access status is cut off (and they do mean that, cuz i checked-nosy;)
I may be late next week. Not sure yet. Bill is putting v.4 on the laptop, mostly so that I can be "aware" and have a plan. I do not intend to or want to while visiting Daddy ~work on EA stuff. And I will not print it all at Dad's.
When you can -get something in. It will be fine.
The "critiques" are not that individual, so when you can, put something in.
I almost called Colleen today to see how her dilemma was going. I do not think I could do that:eek:
for that matter, I would not know what to do with the wacom thing either.
Kim, I liked what you turned in. Your bubbles seem to work so well. At least I got them done. And those idioms were fun! I could go on and on with those.
glad you liked the hw. Yup-she had fun:rolleyes: our tax dollars at work!

Ah, Michelle! Thanks for thinking of me today! I just sent you an email.
In the nutshell....here was my day:
Well, I did the clean install and guess what....didn't work....had problems with things not installing. I finally packed the %$#@ thing up and took it to my local Cyber Warehouse. Should have done that two months ago!!! They had told me $50. to run a diagnostic test, and additional $30 to reinstall, and if it were to be the HD, an 80 GB (which is what it is now ...60 or 80) that would be $70. I didn't care. Well when I got there the nice guy said he would just take a peak. Turns out he immediately found a problem with the RAM. A bad memory card. He took it out, ran a few other diagnostics on it and said he felt it was good to go. He told me if I had attempted the clean install myself earlier in the day, just to go home and redo it. I went to pay him. He said: NO CHARGE!!!!! I couldn't believe it!!! I tried to give him a tip. He said I can't do that...really.... no charge. I tried to insist. He pointed to a security camera and said really.....I'll lose my job, I am glad I could help you!!1 ALMOST, I repeat ALMOST made me feel bad about ordering my mac!!! He actually told me I am probably fine with the 512 RAM in there and if I find it being too slow come back for more, but he thinks the 512 will be fine!!! I came home did the clean install and I am a happy woman!! I will have to redo my organizer, but I just don't care......
Sooooooo.....Carol: I am going to be late with my homework too!!!! I wonder if we will get detention!?!?!?!?

We are getting ready to ride some. Not sure where dad and step-mom are leading us. But will take the camera:D
Now, when one receives directions such as "just go on up that road a bit till it turns some and then go off it , a ways-can't miss it" Gosh, every road turns up here! I think we are going to try and find the covered bridge, that is not too far. Then possibly go by Oakhurst golf course for Bill to see.
We are in Fairlea. The postoffice they use is Ronceverte. However the closest "real spot" is Lewisberg. It is lovely here.
The deer would not co-operate this morning in the yard:( ,maybe later.
I've not even looked at this weeks HW, maybe tonighte, I'll read after everyone goes to bed.

We made it back from our day travels. Saw some nice scenary.
Made it up to Oakhurst Links~oldest organized golf club in the US. I went to see it last trip up, but Bill had not seen it. I bought him a golf club from there. It will hang somewhere on a wall at home. The sheep eat the grass there for mowing.
There's no more snow here at daddy's but the icicles esp. are still hanging from the mountains as we drove around today. A drive along those windy roads makes me feel as though I've already comsumed several adult beverages, and I've only had water:eek:
Bill informed me today that the snow driving yesterday was making him nervous too. OMG-good thing he didn't say anything then.
Heard from both Tina and Linda (from here). Their info has helped us find some things.

We plan to hit the streets in town today. I bet I find something for me there:p
I read at a glance the HW for this week. Hmmm, not sure what to do yet.

Good Lord Coleen, do you mean to tell me you have to pay taxes on the kids birthday money? That just stinks!!!!! Is there any way around that?
We faired pretty well, only had to pay state, got a refund from the feds. Ended up being ALMOST a wash!!!
mom to 4
March 22nd, 2007, 10:34 PM
Yep, the state of PA, takes a percentage of every dime the kids earn in interest on the money they have put in the bank. It's amazing isn't it???? It doesn't amount to a lot of money, but I think it is way over the top taxing kids that are in 1st grade because their birthday money over the previous years was put in the bank for them. We have been in PA for 10 years, and for 10 years my kids have had to pay taxes to PA. EVEN NJ DIDN'T DO THAT!!!! So what does that teach kids??? It teaches them NOT to save!!!  Oh, you don't want to get me started on taxes!!!!!
OK, back to my homework:D I am really having one h$(( of a time with this HOUSE. Nothing I do is making it come out like hers. I did figure out the "change back to the mster channel".....I THINK! Colleen, with the house I just followed her directions literally. My colors did not look right either. the whole thing looked different in the end. Colors off, too dark here or there. Well, I don't see me needing to change the 'atmosphere' in any of my photos any time soon. We only need to post two composites of the techniques we learned in the exercises and I did not like the 'house' exercise' though I did it. I did the comic...the frame...the pattern (at least that's what I'm calling those little comic clips arounds my big comic pic)....and the puzzle. I'm calling that a week:) . I do need to do the 'what goes around comes around' exercise though. Good Luck!

Here is a picture of the basketball raffle quilt. It is going to be auctioned off tomorrow night. I am not going. It is the anniversary of my Dad's death, and I don't think I will be in the mood. I just hope it does wellhttp://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1AU4N2DyW4szTdBOTbl4Hefo84QEXG_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1AU4N2DyW4szTdBOTbl4Hefo84QEXG)!! !

Well I'm posting week 2 C&C homework against my better judgement. I like the layout, but my photos are such poor quality that I'm just not happy with the overall results. However, since the class is about learning PSE tecniques and not photography, here goes!!!!

Carol, The key collage is great. I love your take on it. In "our" group last time we all were "rust" challenged, and 'tearing paper' challenged!:p
Colleen , LOVE the quilt! I had thought it was in your last e-mail-didn't scroll the other day here. I hope it brought some good $$$ for the athletic fund.
Hope you got through yesterday, as painless as possible. Thinking of you.
Need to DL the photos from yesterday's winter guard comp. gosh I hope at least some...are decent!

Roller Coaster photo -the puzzle was using shutter priority(trying hard to stay off auto)
I also finished my pictures for Megan from the winter guard competition. They were not as good as I would have liked for them to be...but I salvaged a good amount. I had the ISO set wrong:rolleyes: , so I had to deal with that. AND the kids moved, the flags moved, and not all at the same time:eek: They were kinda new at this.
Lighting was bad too. I created some collages for them, as it was easier for me to post a lot of photos that way.
Here it is if anyone wants to look.AND none of the photos were taken in auto!:D

Thanks Kim,
I was happy with the HW. Don't ever see me using the house thing though. Heck if I get a clear photo, I like to keep it that way!
I keep trying the 'off auto' stuff...I don't know.
I think I would like for the camera to have a "re-do" settings button. So that after I screw up a picture that ought to be good with the wrong settings, I could convert that same picture with some other settings until I got the right settings:p
Guess I won't hold my breath for that one!
Gotta read some more in the books, but I just don't get it.

I do awful if set on 'A'-think I've been lucky maybe 3 or 4 times. "S' isn't tooo bad, have the best luck there. and I haven't tried 'P' yet. Need to read some more.

Michelle, thanks for the heads up on the rainbow but I did that early yesterday. Not the best job but 'postable' I think!
Colleen, how did things turn out with the quilt? Did you make it?
This weeks homework-will post the stuff I worked on yest. I am a little rattled with my mom being admitted to ICU yest. so for the grunge stuff don't think I'll make my own. Will put something together with some brushes I have. We know it won't matter to Sara. She'll never notice:rolleyes: I am enjoying the techniques we're learning but don't see me using some of it.
Did you see that Sara is posting the rest of out assignments? She'll be taking her mom to Disney so she will (may be already has) posting week 4-5-and 6.
Will head to the hospital in a little bit. Just called...her heart rate is stabilizing and her oxygen level is better. She's in my unit so I'll be with her all day Sat, Sun and Mon.

I'm enjoying what I am learning too. And the "things" I am creating, I
am trying to make them things I would want to do something with. (if that makes sense).
One grunge I have in mind, would be a scrapbook page for Megan's dance album. Now lets ust see if: Ican locate the photos, and IF I can make it happen/
Also, keep us posted on your mom. Praying for the best for y'all.
Since you will have her in your unit, you'll be able to keep on top of

Can someone give me a step by step on how to load brushes that I've downloaded from the internet. I know I've done a dozen times, but lately I just can't seem to get it to work. Are you limited to the number you can have loaded on your list, I thought that may be it..
Here's what I usually do
1 open preset manager
2 say load
3 select the brushes from PSE4>Presets>brushes
4 Click done
The brush opens, but as soon as I use it and close the brush menu, it's
gone, not listed on the list.
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I think all this homework has really taxed my brain!!!!

Hi there,
It's 5 o'clock here too:D And the mister brought one back a bit on the 'tastey ;) side" (wow).:p
anyhow...
here we go (do remember I teach elementary school, so I apologize for some of my terminolgy)
On Kimi's advice, i started a brushes folder on the desk top. Because I tend to collect brushes, fonts......
**make a brushes folder on desktop
1. DL brush set to desk top
2. Unzip -it and stick it into the brushes folder (my win-zip has an extract here)
3. Say bye, and leave it alone for a bit.
4. Open elements.
5. click 'B' for brushes
6. click the little pokey triangle thingy that points down
7. Then click the pokey triangle thingy that points to the right
8. Click : Load brushes.
9> new box and navigate to your brushes folder where the open new ones are.
10. click it and it is there. in elements ready to "brush"
Let me know how it goes.
I haev screwed up brushes (wel other things too) so many times, I think I finally have it.

Gosh you get up early!!
Since I am a master at screwing up things and losing them....
Here you go for the brushes. sorry for the elementary vocab.
1. Make your brush with whatever settings
2. go to edit> define brush. and name it.
3. Before going anywhere else....
4. open the little pointy down triangle in the options bar, and scroll
to the bottom of that brush set that you are presently in. Your new "created brush" is at the bottom.
5. Make sure it is highlighted
6. Then go to the pointy triangle to the right and click it
7 go to pre-set manager, click
8. New box opens, find your new brush at the bottom and click it so a black box is around it,(that's how that part gets highlighted)
9. name the brush, save set the brush
10 from the new window at the top decide where the brush is going to live.
11. write how you want it named again, Then click done.
Then to use it later, see the post above I did for Carol.
when not being stupid:rolleyes: and pay attention to what I am doing, I can make several and then save them together as a named set.
But after you define the brush if you switch tools, or go to another set of brushes, its history.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the HW comments. Hope you are able to relax a bit, and work on yours.
Later,

Hey Michelle,
Good morning and thanks soooo much for the directions on the brush. I'm going to give it a try later and I'll let you know how it goes.
We were out very late last night, had tooo much coors lite, and now the kiddies are coming this afternoon for an early easter dinner (they're going to DIL's parents in Va Beach next week). So I have to get the kids baskets put together and hide the eggs, not to mention getting rid of this little headache and cotton mouth!!!
We had a great time though. We follow a local 50's band called the Hub Caps and they are really good. They do everything from the fifties to the seventies, and when the girl singer does Janice Joplin's "Bobby McGee" it makes the hair stand up on my arms, she sounds just like Janice. Lots of fun, makes you feel young again - until the next morning that is!!!!!
But I digress. . . . . thanks again for the brush info.

Hope all the directions are correct. But let me know if the 'tastey beverage" I had while typing caused my fingers any confusion.
Glad you had a good time last night. That sounds like fun music. I would have loved it.
Busch Gardens had a series going for awhile of bands from other eras. We took in a few. It was great. and I just sang right along.:D
WE are heading out there today to hear a Mexican singer from their hispanic series. I'll take the camera, and try more off auto and maybe today it will be cerveza, por favor.
don't worry about digressing on this thread with us-no problem.

Michelle,
I couldn't wait, just jumped over to elements and tried to load a brush. I followed your instructions to the letter. A line appears at the bottom of my list and the new font is below the line. However when I select another brush, the newly installed one disappears. I tried it in both 4 an 5 with the same results.
I'm also not having any luck with the directions you gave Kim for defining and saving a new brush set. Same thing happens, the brush appears but when I switch to another brush it is gone.
I've done this many times before and have quite a lengthy list of brush sets. Do you think the is too long and maybe I need to delete a few.
msbrad
April 1st, 2007, 11:43 AM
I guess that could be it. Not sure how many brush sets the program holds. I've been saving them to a brushes folder on the desk top as per Kimi, and no problems. I just read through the directions again, and I think they are right.
Sending you a pm.

Bridget,
welcome to our little EA hangout.
Here is a synopsis of the courses (that I have taken)
Fee:$20.
Length: 6 weeks
New class lesson posted Sunday morning.
The lesson consists of: html, a pdf, and ususally a zip file to use for practice exercises taught in the lesson.
Then, there is homework that gets posted each week,. Well, we try to get it in on time. However, all HW needs to be in by 10 days after lesson 6 is posted.
HW gets posted to their homework site. I started a web shots acct. to place mine on, so I can then post the link on EA site.
I print the pdf, as I need to work from a hard copy with a highlighter.
The length of the lessons have been....I think the shortest is 17 pages and the longest 61.
I have really enjoyed what the lessons have taught me and what I have learned so I can apply it to other parts of this program.
It has also been fun having others in our "class" here too, so we can sort things out, and talk a lot:D
Hope this information is useful. Come back and ask more or just visit.

Oh I am still thinking we have the 10 days past the normal week 6 stuff.
And BTW...I still haven't printed #4. I thought it would be this afternoon
but I was busy trying to figure out how dumb i am when i go off auto.
I started another thread, in 'general section'
Chuck is helping me through. Thank God. I've been taking and posting up pictures this afternoon. Also reading the book with his assistance.
I do think I will be paying his bar bill---forever for this one.
In case you didn't see it, you were asked about. So I decided to answer for you. I do think it was Kev who started the thread.

Brob, I think they anseared most of your questions, but dial up will work just fine. You down load a pdf file each week, or each two weeks. I took the basic PSE5 part 1 course and the file sizes were all under 3 meg, which will work with dial up.
So what you do is read through the PDF file, it's very well done, then do the homework and post the results on the web. For me it took a couple hours each week, I know that some of the classes require you to be creative, haven't got to those yet, which would take more time. The nice thing is you are working to a goal, which helps motative you along. Ok at least me.
It's worth $20 for me, to be forced to complete something:) And of course you have this entire forum to help you along.
And to MSBRAD, what's this naked sky diving stuff about anyway. Haven't you heard of the mile high club? Also glad to hear you got your camera problems fixed, it's always those stupid little things, isn't it.

Bridget,
Give a class a try. The collage and comp. one I first took was my first attempt at this online type of stuff. I think they only let me in becasue i had taken some photoshop classes privately here in town.
I was worried I couldn't even figure out how to do an online class much less get the stuff posted. But through the help here, I did it.
I am always slow at getting things done until I absolutely have to. Maybe because I do too many things at once.
If all the HW isn't in on time...the only thing that happens is you do not get your certificate, and I guess, it would prevent the next class if in a series. BUT, you would still have the information to learn at your own pace.
