I am posting this to both Photoshopelementsuser.com (Premier Elements forum) and Muvipix.com in hopes that a larger audience will read about my dilemma and perhaps several of you will have a solution for me. I apologize in advance for the length of the post, but hopefully the more information I can provide, the easier it will be for some of you to suggest solutions.
A. I installed Premier Elements 3.0 Tryout and was beginning to learn to use the program for 11 days. Then I saw a sample of a video motion that I liked and asked at another forum how it was done. I was advised a plug in called DebugMode Wax did it. So I downloaded and installed DebugMode Wax but then one thing after another in PrEl begin to go wrong. (Will list problems below after prelude facts)
B. I uninstalled DebugMode Wax and did a registry clean. But was still having problems with PrEl.
C. I uninstalled PrEl through Add/Remove, did a search and removed every PrEl entry and then did another registry clean.
D. I told it to reinstalled in Program Files-Adobe Folder into a new folder I named PrEl 3.0 Trial. I still had the same (and more) problems which I have been trying to clean us from day 11 till day 19 (Yesterday).
E. Today I uninstalled everything I could find through add/remove programs, search, and registry clean, even the original download. I did notice in the add/remove that there were 2 PrEl progrmas, one was Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 Tryouts ( 676.00 MB). The second was Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 Templates Tryouts ( 2,721.00 MB). Before I uninstalled them I did go looking and found them under Program Files – Adobe (but neither was in the new folder I named PrEl 3.0 Trial). That was confusing because I thought I might have inadvertently installed it twice in two different places. But that was not the case because….
F. I went back to Adobe and redownloaded PrEl 3.0 trial.. When I installed again I didn’t tell the installer where to put the files, just let them go wherever the installer wanted to put them under Program Files. Now I have found two new files in the main Adobe folder under Program Files. They are Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 (169 MB) and the second one is simply named Tryout (453 MB). I KNOW they were not there before I did the THIRD install.
G. And I still have the following problems. (I did notice that the remaining days on the trial version did not reset to 30, which leads me to believe that the steps above did not completely remove everything associated with PrEl 3.)
1. The first problem was an error popup that said: “Adobe Premier Elements has encountered a problem.” [\pre\MediaLayer\Scr\VideoFrame\VideoFrameFactory.c pp-472 There is no X to click it off, only a button that says "Continue" I'm not kidding when I say that I have clicked that thing at least 100 times in a 2 minute period. I did find that if I click anywhere else on the screen the popup error goes to the task bar and I am able to continue working on the project. It sits in the task bar until I close the program, and can then click “continue” and it goes away.
2. In the Video Effects menu, the samples are there, but I cannot see the sample icons, only identical placeholders with the text description beneath each. Everything is okay under the Video Transitions menu.
3. In the Text menu, the sample icons are missing. There is not even a placeholder to click on. But I can click anywhere at random in the menu and the text example does show up on the monitor.
4. In the help files there is only a placeholder where the pictures should be.
5. In the available media menu: after I add still pictures I cannot see the picture, only a black square placeholder where the picture should be with the name of the file showing in both the list and icon views. However when I double click on the picture it does show correctly in the Preview window.
6. When I place a picture on the timeline, I cannot see the picture in the timeline itself. It is visible on the monitor and if I double click picture in the timeline the picture opens in the preview window. If I double click it in sceneline the video starts playing in the monitor. Before all the problems started I could see the picture in the timeline and toggle it on and off by clicking the button to the left of the timeline. Now the only thing I can see is the name of the file, the drop down menu (for control, motion, and opacity) and the long line where the keyframes are indicated
7. If I try to use the menu to insert an overlay on the picture in video 1, it either replaces the picture or adds the overlay following the picture. I am able to drag the overlay to video 2 and it works okay.
Oh MY, what a laundry list of problems. But I really, Really, REALLY do want to keep PrEl 3. I had planned to purchase the PhEl 5 and PrEl 3 bundle but now I’m afraid to unless I can resolve these problems. I prefer PrEl 3 over Adobe Creative Suite 9 full version (which was installed at the factory at my request). Please don’t suggest I reformat the hard drive because this computer less than a month old. And although I’m not afraid to install/uninstall software the thought of reformatting is beyond my comfort level.
If you've read this far, THANK YOU. What do I do next?
