View Full Version : Challenge #214

Tom Murray has submitted this Challenge. it is adorable! Please have fun with it.
As an aside, there were a number of good submissions this week but grabbed my funny bone. It was a series of pictures of a kitchen that needed renovation. It would have been a great challenge it were not for the fact that I am in the middle of a kitchen and bathroom renovation in Ontario and similar gut churning renovations in Nova Scotia. I feel like I am living in a very bad construction zone and the idea of a Challenge about kitchen renovation is closely associated with burning splints under my finger nails. I think I will save that Challenge until the day i am drinking a nice Merlot while a fancy meal in my new Kitchen and the construction is a dusty memory.

Present and Past Challenges will remain Until tomorrow at 7:00 pm the then
the Present will be Past and new images will be posted as Present.
* Important notice to all the new people in this forum. This is not a
close shop you are all invited to submit an image. If you don't think you
are good enough this is your first mistake, I think most have found that
working on the Challenge has improved their personal level. So young and
old, hot shots and cool dudes now is you time to post.

Klaatu barada nikto!
PS-As of late Friday night, I am having trouble viewing the first 10 or so entries-the thumbnails show fine, but I can not see the full pictures. It clears up about the middle of the entries.

Hi Ward,
so nice to find kindred nuts.
Now how would you say that in Klingon?
I had the same problem with Grant's site last night. This morning it works somewhat better, but very slow and a couple of images still don't open.

I had the same problem with Grant's site last night. This morning it works somewhat better, but very slow and a couple of images still don't open.
The site problem was due to a glitch in uploading image. The first files uploaded very slowly the my software when into hyper drive and uploads went well. I never check assuming error checking would take care of things. But .... in the wee hours of the evening I again uploaded the site. Now, at my end everything is running smoothly.
Well smoothly is a debatable point ... i am posting under a plastic drop sheet to protect my computer from paint droppings.

Grant,
all's working as advertised now. Maybe early this morning the problem was at my end.
Thank you so much.

What fun! Grant posting under plastic in his ever generous hosting of this adventure; intergalactic argots; and a bunch of great images.
Bob W. What a knockout! the perspective and color and mood are all just so well done, I love it.

Thanks for the comments -- this was one of those images that kept growing as I worked with it. There's a later version on my website.

Much apologies for almost nonexistent posting of challenge images this weekend. All our computers with the exception of or laptops have been under tarps as the painters painted the house. The laptops are not equipped with software to up load to the web site. We now have almost all of our home back with the exception of a kitchen and some areas that are being tiled. The kitchen will be operation as soon a the counter tops arrive. Seems the counter top people are better at giving estimated date of completions compared to delivering on these dates.

...the counter top people are better at giving estimated date of completions compared to delivering on these dates...I don't believe this skill is restricted to the counter top trade...

The Art Deco door inspired a lot of great images this week.
ALEX B: Good job completing the door in #1 -- right down to the missing reflections. Neat composite of Challenges in #2.
ANNE T: Love the Viking figurehead in #1 and the submerged statue in #2 -- the color and ripples on the surface are amazing.
BARBARA W: Wonderful textures and shading in all three images -- I like the Torah-scroll look of #1, the sword circle in #2 and the circle theme in #3.
BEN M: Love those ears and the buck teeth!
BILL Z: Nice integration of the two Challenges.
CHRIS R: Interesting decomposition and layering of the door elements.
DEBRA F: I like the color shift for the sentinel.
CHARLES Y: Solarization? -- interesting combination of color and a brush-stroke look.
DAVE D: Nice job filling in with the stone background -- I can't read the writing on the wall or the sword hilt -- care to enlighten us?
ELLEN H: Good completion and insertion of the door into the shed photo.
HILMA A: Is that an altar screen in #1? Nice insertion. Have to love the George Clooney 'Oscar' in #2.
JODI F: Wonderful Dead-Man's-Chest theme -- I'm in awe of the bubbles, lighting and sea denizens. And welcome back!
JOHN E: Cool use of Gore and his appearance at the Oscars as the theme in #1. Love the frames and distortion in #2. A great Tron-themed image in #3 (the circuit-board background is amazing!). The sword-circle in #4 is nicely done. The surreal scene in #5 is quite beautiful -- playing on the doves/swords opposition?
KIMI B: Applause for using a non-obvious component to construct a great image!
MALCOLM D: The Lady of the Lake? Surely, that's Excalibur!
MARILYN L: Love the overall composition -- nice work on the ribbon, shadows and the horses' manes and tails.
PAT C: The sword array in #1 is great -- and I love the background pattern. The gelatinous bubbles in #2 are remarkable -- care to tell how you made them?
RED S: Does that homeless guy just LOOK like Rudy Giuliani?
RITA G: Nice recreation of the 'Day the Earth Stood Still' Washington Mall scene.
RUSTY: I like the molten cauldron -- good work on the folding doors, too.
TAB A: Cool integration of the lightning bolts into the overall image/frame in #1. Love the '50's cartoon feel of #2.
WARD G: Nice substitution for the glass reflections -- including the bird was a great touch. Interesting extension of the Art Deco look in #2.

Bob
Thanks for the comments on this week's entries.
As others have commented, your opened doors entry was masterful.
Without slighting all the great entries this week, I thought Anne's ship figurehead was an unusual and very well done entry.
