View Full Version : Gradient Question

I don't know if I can explain this but here goes: If I add a gradient to a layer, then add a new layer and another gradient in a different spot, the first gradient disappears on my area that I am working on. It shows the different ones I made on the thumbnails on the layers palette. Is it possible to add more than one gradient whether it is on different layers or on a single layer??

Hi Jancy,

I think the answer to your question may be in THIS THREAD (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20024)

Wendy gives a way of doing multiple gradients in post #4 & I think there were other tips as well. I think it was a case of making sure you choose the right gradient.

Hope this helps.

Jancy,
I also got myself screwed up with gradients when I didn't have just the area selected with the marching ants. those darn ants get me a lot!

Hi ...

If you add a gradient to a layer then it tends to cover the whole layer ... so when you do another layer and another gradient the first one gets hidden.

Ways round that are:

Try a blending mode on the top one
... or use a Foreground to transparent gradient (then the other gradien is still visible through the transparent bit :)

Thanks with the info everyone. I am reading the other thread now and I will try it later when I get back. If I start now--I'LL NEVER GET OUT OF HERE!!!
I just wish I could use any gradient and keep adding to the layer! Seems a bit confusing  to me but I'll play around and follow your directions
Thanks a bunch

Another way to show one gradient atop another would be to place a selection on the upper layer, then draw the gradient within the selection to prevent it from filling the whole layer.

Thank you too Byron. I just got home, watching medium and then If I am not too tired I may give it a try. If not It will have to wait until the morning.

Thanks so much for your help.
