Well I finally took the plung and went out tonight to purchase the new D80. I found on the internet that Circuit City had get $65.00 off of the D80 with the 18-135mm lens. Plus they had no interest till August 2008. So I figured might as well go out and get this one now. Even with it an internet ad they gave me the sale price in the store. Will get one of the VR lens later after I save some money. Tomarrow I am going to start reading the manual or should I say the book.
Want to thank everyone who put some input in on the posts that I had for the camera and lens. I did a lot of reading of reviews and with what everyone here said I am sure that I won't be disappointed.
I already have a Nikon the coolpix 995. Before I said it was a 950 that was a misprint.
Again thanks to everyone.:)

Welcome to the PET D80 club. Good choice :) . Be warned though - it's not a point and shoot - you have a lot of learning to do. The manual and this Nikon web-site are a good place to start:

Congrats on the D80. I just ordered the D200, moments ago from B&H, This is a big step for me. I had the Sony 828, and loved it but needed to grow a bit. Hope I didn't grow to fast. My first DSLR.
