I have no idea why I'm posting this here, I just have to tell someone. I just found out that the county is looking at running a major corridor right threw (along) our FL property. This is a little private paved one lane road and they are talking about running a freaking 4 lane road right on top of our house! Oh I feel sick.

The only thing I think might be our saving grace is the wildlife preserve next store to us (1200 acres) and Hickey's Creek right out my back door. Maybe the environmental impact would be to severe.

This is a map of the proposed options to extend Sunshine Blvd. The straight shot is onto Zeligro Road, that's us!

I'm sorry I just had to get this off my chest. This has major impact on the possible sale of our place. I really don't know what the hell to think.

Thanks for the shoulder.

Oh Ange, I do feel for you. That is awful.
It does say, further study..so maybe all is not lost...yet.
If the state or "whoever" they are, buys it, how does that affect your sale??
Can you jack up the price to them?
Vent any time.

Hey Michelle,

You know I have no idea how this could impact the sale, yea that sounds dumb! If they do build this road going through our property, it could ruin it as an investment. I'm not sure if they will take all 20 acres, but I know that they will take our waterfront. And if indeed they have chosen this route, they will give us an offer. It won't be anywhere around what we are asking. I have also heard that you better take the first offer from the government, because subsequent offers go down!

I feel like a fool for living in la la land here. I really wasn't paying attention to this study, in fact I had no idea it was still in the works. They are having a meeting this Thursday night, calling it an "open house" whatever that means. I guess we might even find out if they chose our road or not. I hope the week goes Fast!

If it happens to Zeligro, it will be a sad day for the wildlife park.

Thanks so much for reading and letting me vent.

Yikes, I hope things go well at the meeting.
I hate to see beautiful property destroyed and wildlife threatened.

Hi Ange,
We have had a couple of eminent domain cases here in Connecticut
and sad to say the landowners did not make out to well...

Hope your case works out better.......... Tom :(

Ange I do feel for you... Our family has owned land in the Mark Twain Nationl forest in Missouri for 50 years. Wild and beautiful... one of the few areas where you can walk miles in any direction without meeting another humane being.

Then one day and a few bucks to our new Governor Blunt, we now have a wonderful lead mine next door.

My advice is to get your neighbors together and raise hell as soon as you can. In the planning stages they may make a detour just to get the thorn out of their sides.

At the very least you may get them to put the road on the landward side of your property...leaving water access and property value.

One last thing... there was a development in my city that some people held out on and did recieve more money... but a good attorney should be consulted before you make any move.

I agree with Butch, get neigboors, friends, heck have eveyone on the forum email the commission and complain about the plans. Actually the more people you can bring to the meeting, the better it will be for your cause. Public officals hate controversy. If you can find someone friendly in the press, so much the better. The more complaints, the better. And you said there is a wildlife area, that means finding all those groups that fight for wildlife areas to get involved.

Good luck.

Butch is right-when the city I live in tried to ok a big development at the end of my quiet peaceful dead end street, we all got together and fought like hell-and won!

Ange,
It's time to rock the boat and step on some toes. Butch is right, start making loud noises. And as Ross suggested, is there a local journalist you can contact? One that exposes the truth? Make contacts with neighbors, the press, wildlife groups, etc. Make Waves!;)

Make lots of noise & contact all the wildlife organizations you can!

We got a notice the city wants part of our property to put in a sidewalk. Unfortunately it's very near our pool and I don't want people that close - especially when it is a secondary ( more like third-ary:confused:  ) road that is barely over one car width that gets almost no traffic and has a sidewalk on the other side of the street. You're talking about 10 feet difference. All the neighbors are going to the meeting and screaming loudly!

Good Morning All :)

Thank you so much for all of your advice and care, I really appreciate it and boy did I need it!

After taking several deep breaths and a glass or two of red wine, I was able to do some research. I am much clearer on the larger picture here. They have been working this study for a little over a year. On Thursday they are going to release some preliminary findings, regarding impact on environment, cost etc. They will not have a decision, possibly till the end of the year! Nice to be able to hijack someones life for that long!!!

My husband (he is a sweetheart) and I don't agree 100% on what is happening. He believes that the government will give us a fair market value for the property if they want it. LOL (sorry) He loves this place, but really wants out of his crazy job situation he is in (long story). So I know he just wants it to sell and fast. Of course I know uncle Sam is going to give us the least amount he can get away with. Not to mention rip up precious land, that is fast disappearing in FL and everywhere else USA. I'm between a rock and hard place.

I'm going to wait until Thursday to feel out the situation. I am a master at causing big companies grief! I had a battle with Charter Schools USA, and had them on their knees after several front page news headlines. They had about 2 months of awful press, and angry parents to deal with. I now home school, and washed my hands of that nonsense. You can Google my name and come up with a page of stuff. :o Angela Reigelman
(sorry I got off track) I bet some are dated by now.

Again thank you for offering advice and support. I will let you all know what happens on Thursday. Until then I am going to focus on my kids, business and cleaning. :)

Blessings,
Ange

Ange, good luck. I work for real estate attorneys who represent developers and its sad to see what they can get by with. Its happening to a little Island in Georgia that I visit a lot. A bunch of developers got together and of course they are big contributors to the local politicians and they are going to do away with all the mom & pop motels that we've grown to love. Sad indeed. Hope you have better luck than Jekyl Island had.:(
