Hi!

I'm relatively new to PSE (I upgraded to PSE 5 recently) and really new to my Nikon D80.

I've read several articles (and my PSE manual) that suggest saving photos in the psd or other "lossless" file format. Since having the D80, I've found myself opening and re-opening pictures to tweek a little here and there. I shoot jpeg large (or fine ... can't remember).

My questions:
Is there a way to batch change imported photos from the file format jpg to psd (or other lossless format)? I've been changing one-by-one but that's getting old.

What file format do you recommend using?

Thanks so much!

Click File>Process Multiple Files...

Process from: Folder
(Browse to where all the pictures are you wish to change)

Destination: Folder
(Browse to the folder that you want all the pictures to wind up in)

Leave the middle two sections alone for now, and at the bottom "File Type" section, click the "Convert to " and then select the file type you wish to convert it to.

PSD files will take a lot more room on your hard drive then the jpegs will. It might be more prudent to just save the ones you have tweaked in the PSD format. No need for photos that will ultimately be discarded to be switched to a format that will take up more space.

I tend to agree with Jane.:)

Even saving as a PSD really doesn't make THAT much of a difference for one "open and resave".
Jpeg loses some each time you open and save (the same file) .. open and close does nothing to the file.
My advice would be to save the ones you have tweaked as a PSD and leave the untouched ones as a jpeg.
Even then, if you are done tweaking them and have already saved them as a jpeg then there will be no benefit in converting them.

One huge plus, aside from the lossless format, is that all your layers stay intact when saving as a PSD. The history will be lost but layers stay.;)

Hope this helps.:)
