Went to the George Strait concert tonight, didn't bring my camera, but it made me think... What's the best way to take pictures of something like a concert where there is low light except on the subject (George) that want to capture? I have a Sony DSC-H5 with many different automatic settings and manual as well. Shutter priorty, Apeture priority, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I plan to take my camera to the next concert.

By the way, it was indoors and we were about 40-50 yards from the stage. I want to avoid flash for the obvious reason that it just doesn't reach that far.

TIA

Set the ISO setting as high as possible. Use a spot reading as the stage might be quite bright. And despite what I said in another post, consider using a mono-pod or finding a steady object against which to set the camera.

Sherry (jazzfisher) will hopefully be along to answer your questions. She takes most of her photos as concerts. Take a look at her gallery. It's awesome!
