You can download the layer mask. I have gone over the directions. She seems to say it will work in Elements but I just can't get it. Can someone please help. Thanks~

YES! I am at a loss how to make it work. Must be having some kind of brain freeze. I tried grouping the two images together but I don't get what she has???
Maybe I am making it too hard.:o
Someone please take me by the hand....

Here is what i did. drag mask onto picture resize to fit the way you want. then select the mask (marching ants) then invert , make sure the layer with picture is highlighted . fill selection with black, then throw the mask away.hope that helps

hopefully here is a website with instructions on using masks.
http://graphicssoft.about.com/c/ht/01/09/How_Masks_PSE11001706300.htm
another one

also in the way i first told you about, put selection on it own layer then you can adjust anyway you want, differnt color, styles, etc.

Kimi,
Is that grunge layer mask similar to these?

The only way I could get it to work in Elements was to Ctrl+click the layer mask, select inverse and then delete. It erased the black and left the shape over the picture. It is an odd one - unlike the others Diana posted which I have used with no problem. I think the difference is it is black instead of grayscale. I used it on the image in my gallery of my niece's daughter Alex.

I guess you could fill the black with 50% grayscale and the white area with black and it should then work fine using a blend mode like multiply, difference or overlay. I haven't tried that yet.

Kimi, Diana, Nancy & Suzi - Because it's a .png file with some transparency it works well in a clipping group. You'd stack the grunge border above your background, and your image on top. Then just group the image with the border layer. A plus with it is that you can size/move both layers at will.

Bill, I tried to group together. My first thought was a clipping mask. I just couldn't get it. Thanks so much for the screen shot. :D

Kimi,
Thanks for posting the link!
Nice image! Is that a recent shot? What kind of flower is it?

Thanks. I just can't get that stacking order fixed in my head! I always have them flipped and then they won't work and I get frustrated and find a long way around - but it works.:o :D

Kim... it is one of the pictures I took last weekend. It is called a "Lilly of the Nile". They are great. They come back every year and they multiply.
I was so lost last night. I read layer mask and was somehow trying to use the one from Grant' Tools. But I was clipping them together. :o
Thanks for the other links everyone. Will check them out. :D

Nancy, I saved my flower as a PSD with the same name as the mask. Now I can go back and remind myself how to do it. :D
