I was reading an article over at popular photography on flash and they recommended the LumiQuest® Soft Screen Pop-Up Flash Diffuser (http://www.lumiquest.com/softscreen.htm) for digital cameras with pop up flash. Price is around $11 most places. It looks like a nifty accessory.

Has anyone here had any experience with it?

This is very interesting...but can't one construct the same concept using something like velum paper? ummmmm? Got me thinking of ideas:) Thanks for sharing!

Yes I imagine you could construct something like it yourself. The pop photo article also mentioned that with a bit of manuvering that you could use colored gels with it too.

Some ideas (http://home.comcast.net/~dougsmit/bounceflashtoys.html) that are cheaper, more flexible and give better results.

Anything translucent placed over the popup flash will help eliminate hot spots and the classic deer in the headlights look. I have tried kleenex, bubble wrap, pieces of a translucent bleach bottle all with some degree of success. The beauty of the Lumiquest is that it has no sharp edges and will probably fit on your popup and stay on without bungees, rubber bands etc. That being said it is important to remember that any diffuser on a popup will reduce the power of an already not too powerful flash and the results you get will never approach those obtained with an off camera accessory flash that can be diffused as well as bounced.

I use a paper handkerchief over the pop up flash when it is too stark.
