View Full Version : Query regarding dark .avi files?

This is a question NOT specific to Premiere Elements. Just hoping someone here might have an answer for me.

I have a new pc (HP Core 2 Duo, E6300, 2 gig RAM). Monitor is the same.
I have calibrated my monitor and photos are spot-on.

While I use Elements for photo-editing, for dv-editing I use Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus (sorry). On my new computer, my video files (.avi files) are all dark and almost unwatchable. I just captured fresh video tonight and noticed it for the first time. I tried Pinnacle and then Nero and both have same darkness on-screen. (So it is not Pinnacle. It is some setting on my computer somewhere.) I viewed old files that I know are not dark (on my old computer). What could be wrong?

p.s. When I watch a video from ITunes (or a video tutorial here or somewhere else on the Web), no darkness. It seems to be just my saved video clips.

Thanks in advance for any advice and ideas!

Oh, Marie, that's not good.....is it just with video or photos in slide shows not just regular photo editing, but the photo in the slide show too? I was wondering if you did a slide show in elements if they turn out the same way

Photos are all great everywhere, even in Pinnacle. It is just my .avi video clips that I want to make into a video this week. I think it has to do with my graphics card settings, but I am not sure. Wish this stuff were easier!

p.s. At least it is not Pinnacle for a change!

I downloaded the latest and most up-to-date video driver. Then I went to my display properties advanced settings and selected the old .icc profile for my monitor. Voila. My monitor profile is back to my Gretag calibrated ICC profile and my video is no longer dark! Looks like I just needed the latest video driver.

Fixed it myself. How about that!!!

Congratulations!!! Doesn't it feel sooooo good to fix something yourself. It's like an "AH!" moment!

Speaking of "ahhh" moments, have you done your fresh install of Windows yet?

Ahhhhhhhhh, no! I called Mike on Friday, but he wasn't home his dad said he would call. I know he got the message cause he told one of the kids from school at a party Sat. night. He was surprised I really called. Maryellen didn't see him at school yesterday. Hopefully he was there today. You know I could probably do it myself, but I would just feel a little better............ya, know?
