Hello everyone this is my first ever post, so I'm not aware of all the etiquettes. I've been trying to adjust the color of the sky in a photo per instructions given. The problem I'm having is that the when I hit the shift key and run the line through the center the whole layer turns blue. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can you help?

Hi Ali-
Make sure you've created a new layer above the image and that you are putting the gradient on that new layer. Also make sure that you've picked a blue as your foreground color and are using the linear gradient, foreground to transparent. Let me know if this helps:)

aliscraps, it'd be helpful to see the picture you're working on. If it's a nice "clean" line on the horizon (not trees, etc.), you can select the sky and put it on its own layer, and then run your gradient on that layer. There are so many ways to replace color in a sky, but it sounds like this is the method you are trying ???

I was using the picture given to us in class. I have a separate layer and I was doing what the video asked me today. I have spent some time trying to get this right but finallygave up. I don't understand why the whol layer is blue and not just that portion. Thanks again

Hi Ali,
I'm adding a little to Carol's instructions:
1. Create new layer above Background image
2. Select sky color with eyedropper tool for your foreground color
3. Select gradient tool blue foreground to transparent and linear gradient
4. On the new layer hold down Shift key and drag the gradient down to the treetops

Aliscraps,
I think I know what your problem is cos it just happened to me when I tried it out!
Make sure that you haven't got reverse checked in the toolbar (in my version it's to the right of opacity)

Thanks for all your assistance. Some of my settings were off. Like having the reverse checked. and not having the transpency checked that did the trick. You all were very helpful. Thanks
