Wikipedia defines it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Still_life) as a work of art depicting inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (flowers, game, sea shells and the like) or man-made (drinking glasses, foodstuffs, pipes, books and so on). This week's theme is still lifes.

Because the purpose of the weekly theme is to get us more familiar with our cameras and to sharpen our photographic skills, entries should be taken during the week of the theme.
Photoshopping is allowed.

I hate being first. :o I am assuming a still life can pretty much be anything. right??? So I walked around my yard and today and this is one of the images. Don't tell me if it is not a still life. :eek: I don't want to know.;)

Well this one is definitely inanimate and still but not a lot of life (although there is a snail shell and a couple of fossils in there). A small collection of pebbles picked up on the Lake Huron beach.

Here's one I took of a rosebud from my anniversary flowers (29 years Saturday). I used natural light from the window with reflection from a sheet of photo paper.

This is one of my husband's and I antique microscope collection. Not sure of the history or the original owner...still under investigation.

This picture shows the cover picture that my husband took for the Journal of Cell Biology (Volume 130, Number 3, August 1995): a living BHK cell in which the microtubule array is fluorescently visualized using the green flourescent protein binding to MAP 4 (science jargon for the science junkies out there). The cover of the journal was glossy, so there was a lot of glare..modifications in lighting still need to be worked out. My husband was one of the first proprietors of GFP chimeras, which is now being vastly used in drug discovery.

Experimenting with natural light this afternoon so posting another. Still could not escape some small areas of clipped highlights in the reflection.
