View Full Version : Terra Cotta and Clay Pots and more ... Feedback needed

I need feedback please! I made this Terra Cotta Vase and Clay pot from scratch. Even the rope. The only thing on this image (and the other 2 in my gallery) that isn't digital and made from scratch is the background. The background is a small part of another photo I took but fits the pots so well. Of course this is my opinion. I need to know other peoples thoughts, ideas, and critiques on this so I know what to keep in mind.

I think the sunflowers need a bit more shading for contour and movement but I created those at the last minute.

Thank you in advance,

I decided to post the one of just the pots but you can see the one with the sunflowers in my gallery too.

Do you think this photo needs something more? Any ideas on what I can create besides a sunflower?

WOW!

Very nice work. I guess I'll learn how to do this kind of thing next week after I learn where the tool bar is, lol!:)

Beautiful! I can't wait to learn this program.

Take care,

Tim:)

Christine, they are great. I was them in your gallery last night and was going to start a thread on them and ask if they were made from scratch and if not what effect you used but the forum wasn't cooperating again.

Great job. I think they are awesome just the way they are. The sunflowers were a nice added touch.

Christine,

I applaud your work on this!

Since you're asking for feedback -- I think the front, short, pot would benefit from a bit more "contour" shading to give it the same rounded appearance as the taller pot.

But, hey... what do I know! It is more than I've ever done... :D

Those are really beautiful. They remind me of some of our southwest visits.
Maybe a slight curvature on the bottom of the pots would provide a bit more 3D. I hesitate to even suggest that, but you asked for input. I'm eons from getting anything near what you have done.

Hi Christine,

Great idea .... nice colours .... of course, being a gardener I love the subject matter. :)

One thing that would add a bit more realism is definition of a light source. On the brick background, it appears to me to be coming from the upper left but I can not tell where the light source is on the rest of the elements.

Besides sunflowers ? ... maybe some type of fruit like pears .... gardening utensils on the ground? ... reeds or ornamental grasses in the pot with the sunflowers to fill out the bouquet ?

Michelle, Wendy, Tim, Kim, Byron, Gail and Kathy,

Thanks so much!

I noticed that the shorter pot needed more roundedness and worked on it a bit in the image with the sunflowers. I see a spot on the bottom left of the pot that needs attention though. The images without the sunflowers were my first ones.

After I upload my images to the gallery, I notice ALOT of little details that I do not see in PSE4 or 5. Is it just me?

Kathy, I agree about the light source and have not even thought about it .. yet ;)

I saved the pots as PNGs so I can use them in all sorts of creations! I hope to be making alot more different styles soon. I am really pleased with how they turned out and wanted to know if they did look good or if it was just me :o

You are too funny!
Hang in there it does get easier.
Not that I'm "there" yet, but I'm on my way.

Great job on the pots Christine! I'm way behind you in doing something like that! Maybe a little more shadow on the rope and pots to make them stand out more. But, that's only my opinion. I like them anyway.
