Hi everyone. I am looking for a book with some detailed instructions on how to do different effects. I was checking out Amazon and they list How to Wow and Picture Yourself Creating with PSE5. Has anyone used these and if so, what did you think? Or if you have any other advice concerning books with instructions for a newbie, I would appreciate it. Thanks much. Carol:)

Well I think the book that everyone has in their library is "the Photoshop Elements book for digital photographers" by Scott Kelby. This is an excellent book because he shows you step by step how to achieve different effects. He has a book out for each PSE 3, 4, and 5 version.
As a member of this forum there are about 150 video/tuts that are also excellent.

Kelby's book is fantastic, and don't forget Matt's new Restoration and Retouching and Dave's Fiinishing Touches-both excellent! :)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have Scott Kelby's latest book for digital photographers and love it, but I'm looking for something that outlines special effects for PSE5. I find the video tutorials are hard to follow (my brain isn't as young as it used to be) and some of the earlier tutorials aren't adapted for PSE5. I'm a newbie and once I get lost, I'm not always sure what to do next. Carol:D

Hi Coyote, I am pretty new to PSE4 and bought 2 really great books on how to do special effects & ways to improve your photos with EASY step by step instructions. They are 1) Photoshop elements 3 Down & Dirty tricks by Scott Kelby 2) The digital guide to Photoshop Elements 4 by, Barry Becham. Try looking at these books to see if its something you would be interested in. I love them both, there alot of fun!!

I know you eventually want to buy because you want the book on hand - but - I was surprised how up to date the books they had in our library were. I have ordered a couple and have a couple here at home. You can find out what you like and how easy it is and then order your own.

Thanks Linda and Shari for your help. I will try to have a look see at these books if our library has them. I live in a little town without a bookstore, so I end up purchasing most of my books on Amazon without ever seeing them.
There's so much great work on this forum that I'd like to have a picture presentable enough to post someday!
