Hi Potch ..
... and welcome to the forum :)
One way of working out where things go is:
Go to your Adobe software folder and look in the folder marked presets.
Inside there you will find a whole series of folders and these are the ones that most (but not all) freebies go into.
Files ending in .abr go in the Brushes folder
.aco in the Colour Swatches folder
.csh in Custom Shapes
.grd in Gradients
.pat in Patterns
Installing Layer Styles PSE5 (asl). First make sure that the "Show hidden folders and files" option is turned on in Windows. Then create a Shortcut on the desk top to:
C: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>5.0>Photo Creations>Special Effects>Layer Styles
To install a Layer Style just create a new folder (if you need to), pop the .asl file (or files) in it and then drop the folder on the shortcut ... restart Elements and the layer style then shows up in Special Effects>Layer Styles
Anything that isn't mentioned in the above list then just ask about that one individually
Hope that helps ...

Hey Wendy, I'm really confused now. I've looked all through my adobe folder (which BTW was in a different place to begin with). I have "Show Hidden Files" selected in the folder options. I don't see a folder labled Photo Creations in the list below PE 5.0. So, needless to say, I don't see Special Effects or Layer Styles anywhere either. I know my program has layer styles though, since I've used them in PSE. I've checked every folder under Photoshop Elements 5.0> and don't see them. The closest I see is under Photoshop Elements 5.0>Presets>Styles. When I click on that one, I see what looks like Layer Styles. It says Bevels, Drop shadows, Inner Glow ets.... basically all the things you see when you open layer styles in PSE5. I'm guessing this is what I'm looking for, but wanna be sure. Any suggestions?

Hi Mike ...
Its not in your usual Adobe Elements 5 software folder this ones path is ...
C: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>5.0>Photo Creations>Special Effects>Layer Styles
... and its a different folder to the one you normally install things in :)

Thanks Wendy, but the only folder I could find for Adobe was the one I listed. Going to C: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data, there is no Adobe folder anywhere in that tree.

Yeah, I did. It should be noted that I checked on my desktop computer, and the folders are as you listed. For some reason, they are not as listed on my Laptop. I'll do some more exploring, but I guess it's really a moot point since I do most of my 'real' editing on my desktop. Thanks

Hi ...
It sounds as though you may have a faulty install
... although in one of your earlier messages you said "I've looked all through my adobe folder (which BTW was in a different place to begin with)" ... did you move anything at that stage ??
