Once you make a change to a photo, what type of file do you save it as so you don't lose resolution?
Thanks

You aren't gonna lose resolution unless you change the image size. Now, if you want an uncompressed image, then you need to save as .TIFF or .PSD. I save my 'keepers' two different ways. First, I save a full size version as a .PSD so I can come back anytime and still have all my layer info intact. Then I resize the image for web viewing and save as a high quality .jpeg. If I want to print a photo, I go back to the .psd file and save it as a full res JPEG. I will say... If I do any cropping to the pic's size, I will also save the original as a .TIFF file so I can always have a full res original on my disc.
Of course, you will probably get many other suggestions. This is how I do it.

Ditto here with the way Mike does it. After I save as a .psd I also save as a .tiff. When I have enough .tiff files I transfer them to a CD and remove them from my computer as .tiff files are larger files it serves as a back up.

Hi ...
How I save really depends on what the image is ..
Whilst I am working on a image I always save it as a psd but once I am finishes I then ask myself ... will I ever want to make more changes to it and do I want any layers that are on it. If the answer is No (as it is for things like holiday photos etc) then I flatten the image and save it as a best quality jpg.
... but if I think that at some time I will do more work on the image, need the layers ... so if it is one of my own creations then I save as a psd. :)
Most of my holiday photos, generals snaps I know that I will never edit again so ...

I save my photos the way Wendy explained. However, on some of my favorite photos I save in a folder by itself on an external hard drive and name the file "Originals". Good luck. Saving and organizing pic's can be quite a task.

Hi folks,
Mike, you saidIf I want to print a photo, I go back to the .psd file and save it as a full res JPEG.Why do you change it to a JPEG in order to print? I'm new enough at this whole PSE business that I don't follow you there.
BTW, thanks for sharing your skills with us in the "antiquing a photo" thread.

I have a photo printer at home, but in all honesty, it's cheaper to take my card full of pics to a photo lab and have the images printed there. Plus, you're getting a photo that was actually developed like 'normal' photos. Most photolabs prefer the image to be in .jpeg format (at least the one's I use).
