hello wendy i am trying to make your Valentine's card. i am using pe3. please forgive me as i am very new to photoshop. first my layer pallet looks a little different. i followed your steps and my first layer is automatically called color fill 1. then i click on the small box to make a new layer. i can't get a picture to attach to this layer. instead it appearers as a new background even if i rename the original one. how do you add a photo layer after you have previously created layers, and have them on the same layer pallet? i know this is probably a very basic question but my search results came up dry.

Hi bytor ...
Open the image that you want to add and do Select>All then Edit>Copy
Now go to your new image and do Edit>Paste ...
that should copy you photo into your new file :)

i will. still finding my way. i think i better take the on line layer course. i am on step 5. i am not sure where i am supposed to make my custom shape. on top of my color layer? also the shape is colored should it be transparent? my deleate button is always grayed out.

Hi ...
Your custom shape is always going to be coloured ... we are just creating this shape so that we ca use it to cut a hole in the coloured layer.
Just create it above the coloured layer ...
In steps 6 & 7 it shows you how to get the marching ants onscreen (get the heart selection) and then cut a hole in the coloured layer.
The Delete button will be grayed out until you have the selection on screen ... once you do that then you will be able to delete the centre of the coloured layer.
Do let me know how you go on with it ... you actually are learning lot of different things with this one and you really are doing just fine :)

Hi ...
No ... Just go the layers palette and Control Click on the thumbnail of the heart layer and the marching ants will appear ...
Then switch they eye ball of the heart layer off ...and still in the layers palette click on the Coloured layer then do Edit>Delete and the hole will appear :)

Well, I got it to work, but I had to play around. The step by step didn't work for me. The delete option was grayed out and at when of the steps, when I clicked on the thumbnail, I kept getting a color picker dialog box.
Where did you get the frosted glass texturizer, I don't have that option?

Hi Peg ...
Frosted glass is under Filter>Texture>Texturiser then you click on the little black triangle just above the % and you are able to load more textures just choose frosted glass.
The Delete button will be grayed out until you have the selection on screen ... once you do that then you will be able to delete the centre of the coloured layer. Just go to the layers palette and control click on the heart layer thumbnail and you will get the selection :)
