I have two PCs. I will reference one as 'old' running Windows XP home addition and the other as 'new' running Windows XP professional version. Here is my problem. I started running Elements 4 over a year ago on the old PC. Upgraded from Elements 4 to Elements 5 in November 2006. Upgrade went good. No errors or issues. Now I built the new PC and installed Elements 5 without any errors or issues. I did a full backup on the old PC. Then was in the middle of doing a restore on the new PC. During this process the entire neighbor hood had a power outage. After power was restored I powered up both PCs without problems, but on my new PC Elements 5 organizer wont start. I get the initial screen then Elements 5 hangs. I have uninstalled Elements 5 and reinstalled it several times without success. Anybody have any ideas?
P.S. I have looked at the post for Elements 4 and deleting the state.dat file, but Elements 5 doesn't have that file yet.
thanks

when you uninstall, also head into the registry and remove the entries for Elements 5 - I normally wouldn't recommend it, but it sounds like you know what you're doing:
HKLM>Software>Adobe is where the entires are
Then try a full reinstall from the CD.

I tried deleting the registry items for adobe, but that didn't solve my problem. When I built the new PC I created one partition for my OS to run on and another for all my data. So rather than trying to solve my problem I reformated my OS partition and re-installed Windows XP.
thanks for the advise!!!:D

Here is one idea:
Be sure Show Hidden Files and Folders is turned on and look at the following folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Catalog-there should be a My Catalog.PSA file (assuming you used standard location).
Click on this file and see if it will open.
If not, close Organizer and look for this folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Catalog Folders\My Catalog folder (if you have a different name for your catalog, substitute that for My Catalog)
This folder has some "support" files including thumbnails. Delete this folder and it will get rebuilt when you open Organizer.
If neither of these work, post back and we'll go to Plan B (which I'll think of while you try the above steps)
