Frustrated!

Why is it that sometimes you cannot seem to do the simplest thing in PSE4? I was trying to follow Wendy's Valentines tutorial. When it says to click on the colored layer and hit Edit>Delete nothing happens. I tried everyway I know how and the heart shape doesn't cut out and it just doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? :)

My best take to the reason sometimes things don't work is because it is a computer, and we all can (do) get frustrated. (been there-quite often)
None the less, try this.

Have your color layer with the photo of choice beneath.
With photo active, draw out your custom shape heart.(it will place the heart shape as the middle layer, kinda gray looking.)
Then ctrl+click on the new heart shape layer.( the middle one)
Close off that heart shape layer eyeball.(middle)
Now click active the color layer on the top
Next do the edit -delete
After that the photo should show through.
