I am trying to download the heart brushes from photoshop elements 5 and each time I am told that winzip is not free software and it won't allow me to do the task. I thought that when you paid to use the subscriber area these downloads would be free. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks

Hi Margaret

Welcome to the forums.:)

Winzip is not free software. Zipped files are just a way to save downloading time and make the files smaller.

What version of Windows are you using.??. I am pretty sure XP has unzipping built in.

you *should* be able to right click the zip file and choose "Extract all" from the menu - then follow the prompt as to where you want to extract the contents.

XP does have an unzipping utility. Just right click the zipped file and in the menu that opens choose "Open With" and in the submenu that opens, pick "Compressed (zipped) folders" and this will open the zip file for you. I am running XP Pro, though.

If you don't have that available on your PC, go to www.downloads.com and search on WinZip. There are a few freebies in there you could check out. Once you do the initial search on WinZip, there's a dropdown menu at the top of the results that allows you to refine your search to just the free programs. Read the reviews though. Some of them in order to be free, will make you look at ads when you use them. CNET.com has their own reviews of some of the programs and will tell you if it does. CNET.com has been around for a long time and is a trustworthy site in my opinion.

Hope this helps....

What version of Windows are you using that you see that? I have an older version of WinZip I've been using and PowerDesk Pro and don't have that option at all.

I have XP and I unzip downloads by doing as Graffi instructed: "right click the zip file and choose "Extract all" works for me w/no problem.

That option must have been replaced in my right click menu by either WinZip or PowerDesk.

Gene,

Try going to Open With on the right click menu, and then choose "Compressed Folders." I have winzip on one of my computers, and it takes over the default menu option, but you can use Open With...

I use win zip too. I just check the box that says "use evaluation version". Thus far, all is well.
