I'm a new user of PSE 5 and was reading in Popular Photography about using a layer mask in PSCS 2. I know that when I make an adjustment layer the program creates a layer mask. My question is can you make a layer mask in PSE 5 without using an adjustment layer i.e. can you make a layer mask in a duplicate layer?
thanks for the help,
Marv

Hi Marv
You can use the layer masks that come with the adjustment layers. To be honest, I always forget how to do it because I have an addon that gives a proper mask.
I got mine from Grant and I believe Graffi has one as well.

Hi Marv
I just tested the faux mask.
What you do is open an adjustment layer (don't adjust anything) and put it below the layer you wish to mask. Then group the two together and use the mask as normal.
hope this helps.

Second everything Gary just said, Marv. Also, here's a link to the page to download Grant's Tools:

Feel free to ask any more questions!
