I am so confused!! I am trying to download the layer styles from the Subscriber Area. For example, metals. I download it, extract, then put it in the Styles file of the presets. It appears but I can't get it to come up in PSE5 in the layers palette. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong, please? This is driving me crazy.

Hi ...

Insalling in PSE5 is a little different ... Try it this way:

Installing Layer Styles PSE5. First make sure that the "Show hidden folders and files" option is turned on in Windows. Then create a Shortcut on the desk top to:

C: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>5.0>Photo Creations>Special Effects>Layer Styles

To install a Layer Style just create a new folder (if you need to), pop the .asl file (or files) in it and then drop the folder on the shortcut ... restart Elements and the layer style then shows up in Special Effects>Layer Styles

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the info, Wendy, but where do I find the "Show hidden files" in Windows. It's probably something simple but I can't get passed this point.
Help!!

Wendy, That site has lots of good info for Windows users! :)

Wildrose, I took the bait and tried it, Internet Explorer asked if I wanted to close all of the tabs. I could definitely get in trouble trying things I read about...
