Will installing new brushes right into the correct folder slow down PSE4?
If so, is there another way of having them readily available without installing them into PSE4?

Hi
In theory, it will slow down the inital startup. All the brushes are loaded when elements starts.
I'm not sure how many you have to have in the brushes folder before a noticable slowdown occurs.
You can keep your 3rd party brushes (unzipped) in a separate folder and load them via the little arrow at the side of the brushes pallet... click and select load.
Hope this helps.:)

I haven't noticed any slowdown because of the downloads. I get slowdown when I get big psd files with lots of layers. But then that's to be expected.:D

Hi ...
I do keep my brushes in a separate folder but unless you have lots then its not going to slow you down much ...
... and just to repeat what Gary said (because a lot of people still think it slows down using Elements) it only slows Elements down as you open it .. once its open extra brushes in there don't affect it at all :)

I have a separate folder for my brushes. Not because it slows Elements down. But because they have become like my babies and if something happened to Elements and I had to start over. I would still have all of my brushes. :p
Elements is easy because once you navigate to your new location, it remembers it all by itself. :)

does it matter where you have the separate folder?

Nope... as long as you remember where it is.;)
I would almost bet, most have a folder with a set of subfolders for all the little extras that can be loaded with the preset manager.

Thanks for the advice. I have 4 new sets of brushes waiting to be unzipped and sent "somewhere." Think I'll go the new folder route.

I wish I would have done that from the beginning. I would love to move the extras still in Elements out but I don't remember what is supposed to be there. :( :(

I do just to keep them all separate as well as a 'known" place to unzip them to. I used to have them all over the place.. then I tried to get organized.:)
Kimi
ooooo... you are mega organized. I just have a folder named brushes, another for shapes, another for patterns. I have no idea what is in them but they have lots of things.:D

One thing I did learn about downloading scrapbook pages, etc., I put the zipped file on my desktop - where it waits to be unzipped. Then when I unzip it, I look at all the elements in the file and only move to their correct folders, the things I want. This has saved me from filing the TOU and any elements I do not like. And, with the zipped files sitting on the desktop - they are a reminder of which files I have not "dealt" with.
