View Full Version : Custom Shape Import?

Hi All,

I'm brand new here but have been using Elements for a couple of years informally. One thing that I now find myself trying to do is putting new custom shapes into the software. I have downloaded a couple from Adobe's website and put them in the Presets/Custom Shapes folder but the software doesn't show them. Do I have to import them or load them in in some way?

Also if this is a common question, could somone point me towards a good tutorial on the subject? I have some brushes and styles that I also want to put in.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
are you sure they are not there? To the right of the box is a small arrow, click on that and see if the shapes are in the drop down list. If they are, click on them and you'll be able to use them.

Hi guys.

Sorry about this problem.

It seems that it just took 4/5 restarts before they were recognised and added.

They're now there, all ready for me to edit!

Thanks anyway.

which version of elements are you using? If you're using 5, also plop them into

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Photo Creations\artwork\shapes

(hidden folder rules apply - Google for how to make hidden files visible)

The styles still don't semm to be working. Everything else does. Do they require something more than just putting in correct folder?

Hi ...

Installing Layer Styles into PSE5 is slsightly different ... try this:

Installing Layer Styles PSE5. First make sure that the "Show hidden folders and files" option is turned on in Windows. Then create a Shortcut on the desk top to:

C: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>5.0>Photo Creations>Special Effects>Layer Styles

To install a Layer Style just create a new folder (if you need to), pop the .asl file (or files) in it and then drop the folder on the shortcut ... restart Elements and the layer style then shows up in Special Effects>Layer Styles
