when you save pics for web

Hello
Question when I saved my images "saved for web" for the gallery, it seemed to me that they lost a bit of sharpness? Is there anything I should do or is it just that's the way it is?
Also when I resized as in Wendy's suggestion (700 to the largest side) I still had some of my images over the 300 mark so I downsized the image in resize to make it work. (no I didn't save my images permantley this way)

When you downsize like this I think that you are always going to lose some of the sharpness ... I know that some people sharpen to compensate for it but I don't tend to bother.

You mean when you do the adjusting for "save for web" or when I then took (for example) a 9x12 and reduced it by an inch?

I meant when using Save for Web and reducing the image size by quite a lot.

When you reduce for the web, they will lose a bit of sharpness and saturation. I've found that doing the "save for web", then adjusting the saturation and sharpness to THAT image sometimes helps.

The difference isn't much, but i"ve never saved to web before & noticed it.
I'm into photographing music--my last name is Fisher--so...... 8)
Drummers are hard to get good photos of--always behind someone or the cymbal.

No LIE! I spend most of every gig trying for one picture worth keeping...LOL.

You either get their back or the cymbal or someone halfway between you and the drumset...LOL.

My kid's passion is jazz -- his idol is Buddy Rich. I'm loving watching the high school kids get excited about jazz and revive it. It's catching fire up here. :)

Most of the "jazz' artists we see are "retired" from Rock n roll ie: married & in their 30's,40's & 50's. We follow what's called "smooth or contemporay" jazz.
I"ll check in the next few days if I have any decent drummer pics for the gallery.

Your kitty pics are cute! Adam's current gig is with a group here in Camarillo called "Seniors of Note". They're a group of retired musicians from this area who played with some top-name big bands in the 40's. Most are age 80 or over, but they really can play!

For me, it's very cool to see my 16-year old kid love to hang out with these folks. He spends the week between rehearsals figuring out how to jazz up the drumset with some more bells & whistles for them, and he's learning a TON about that era.

They've nicknamed him "Sticks", so now he feels like he really belongs. :)

The musicians we know always try to involve kids anytime they can. We just saw a Dave Koz concert & all the band members brought their kids on stage.
It's great that those guys gave your son the name "Sticks", I bet he really thinks that's cool. Besides as a female I always thought the drummer is the coolest one!!!

I'll jump in here. My son works for an independent record label here in Chicago. One of his responsabilities or passions is "reissue". He spent the last two years tracking down an artist named Gary Higgins whose LP Red Hash was produced and pretty much disappeared in 1972. The upshot is that Zach found him, the band got back together and Zach's label just released a CD last week. My Mom and I went to New York last week for the release show. It was so awesome. These guys are also in their 50's and have had a new lease on life by reemerging. There has been quite a bit of press which can be read if you Google.

I agree, keep your kids involved in music as much as possible, Zach doesn't play an instrument but did take guitar lessons when he was younger. I remember he teacher saying that "Music will be your best friend for life" It's so true.

I've tried to photograph concerts but don't do well. You've done a great job Sherry!

I will definetly google that & look it up!
How exciting not only for your son but for those musicans who have a "second" chance to do music together.
Just put your camera on "action" mode & keep shooting!!! After you get to know an artists then you know facial expressions & movements to wait for.
