In this months newsletter on page 11 there is an advertisement for Focal Photoshop Books. I went to the web site and they look pretty interesting but before I spend the $'s I was wondering if anyone from the forum has purchased any of these books and if so, did you like them or found that you learned something new that maybe wasn't already covered here? I already have all of Scott Kelby's books and a couple of other books that I have seen recommended on the forum so I was just wondering what you guys thought of these four books.
Thanks

I was given the "Maximum Perforamce" book for Chanukah this past year. It was okay - but many of the tutorials were VERY similar to what has been in the PET magazine and in the tutorial section.
There weren't any "ah-ha" moments like there were when I was reading Scott Kelby's or Matt K's book. I would recommend getting either of those books and/or the Missing Manual before getting "Maximum Performance".

I have the Photoshop Elements 4 book by Philip Andrews, and I can recomend it very much. Very well illustrated, clear explanations. Good for the new user(me), because it doesn't go into too much detail but gets you going quickly. You still need this newsletter and website for further training.

Hi everyone
This is another silly question from me!! . .
I use Elements 2.0 which I am very happy with.
I also own a couple of books by Scott Kelby . . The Elements Book for Digital Photographers and The Photoshop CS Book for Digital Photographers.
I also own Photoshop in a nutshell by O'reilly second edition, (now deleted stock).
In various post here on the site, I read of "Missing Manuals" which if any would be a good idea for me to buy?
Would missing Manual 5 help me or should I look for an earlier version please ?
Thank you
Regards

I have Andrews' intro and advanced books on PSE 5 and digital photography. I just got the advanced book the other day. I love it. It's not for newbies, and it's making me stretch a bit too. I plan on "reviewing" it on here after I've made it through one reading.
Quick impressions:
Very detailed step by step instructions on various filters and fixes.
An entire chapter on ACR and RAW workflow.
Absolutely packed with info--no filler or blank pages.
Well written and easy to read, but again, this is for advanced users.
I can't say it's better than this book or that one. I can say it's easily worth the $25 I spent on it through Amazon.

Hi, Terri. There is no Missing Manual for PE 2, and the program has changed a fair amount since then. This is a great reference book for PE 2:
http://www.amazon.com/Photoshop-R-Elements-Complete-Reference/dp/0072224754/sr=1-18/qid=1171049362/ref=sr_1_18/102-5430195-8512911?ie=UTF8&s=books
and I see they offer a bundle with Richard Lynch's Hidden Power book, also very good to have.
