My PSE 5 arrived at my wifes office this morning and when it reaches home I need to be prepared:cool:
In '2' I have all my pictures in 'MS My Pictures'. When editing etc I select from and to My Pictures which saves in the file type I assign.
I believe that PSE 5 has an 'Organiser'? Due to the fact that I am organised, I don't think I want to let a software programme do it for me?
In the past I did install a programme that 'organised' my pictures and it caused mayhem because it renamed everything and lots of links were lost.
Your advice Please:)
PS. Do I leave 2 on my PC when I install 5.

Just don't use the Organizer. When you start PSE5, you're presented with a small window showing various tasks (quick fix, edit, etc.) If you avoid using Organize Your Pictures, you will not meet with the Organizer. To open an image, choose File / Open... then browse to the location where they are stored.

Hope this helps!

Ted....

Obviously your decision but in my opinion the Organiser is great. It will do more than you ever can with a Folder Type organisation using Windows Explorer.

It wont move folders or files around or rename anything. What you must get into the habit of is doing everything like this (should you ever want to) through the Organiser otherwise it looses the links to the files.

One important thing that perhaps you know already. The Organiser does not store your images. It just builds a database and links to where ever they are on your hard drive.

No real benefit to having v2 around once you have v5.

There are plenty of people who don't use the Organizer, Ted, so don't feel that you have too ;)

Ted,

Whether you use Organiser is entirely up to you. You can configure PSE5 to start up in the Editor, and you need never open the Organiser at all.

However, Organiser is a very powerful organisational tool. As Colin says, you can do things with it that you simply can't do in a folder structure. If you've any ambitions to be able to search all your photos for all those you've ever taken of Cousin Fred standing alongside a red car, Organiser's your tool.

It also contains facilities for making slideshows and albums, etc etc.

Get used to the PSE5 Editor and when you're ready, have a play with Organiser. You can make as much or as little use of it as you like.

Just be glad you've got a PC - Mac users don't have Organiser..... (ducks for cover....) :)

All went well Wendy:)
(How often do we get three Ws in a row?)
The first awkward image I gave it required the mid tones adjusting.....5 seconds and its done.
I'm going to enjoy this.
Thank You all:D

Ted,

I am an Organizer fan. I am still using 2 but also use Album. You can keep whatever folder organizational scheme you are using and still use the Organizer tags to enhance your search capabilities. Check out photofanatic.com which has excerpts from Michael Slater's book on how to use Organizer.

I am always considering an upgrade so I have paid attention to comments and I know that some people have left 2 installed because they don't like the changes in certain functions. I think it was things like printing photo packages, ability to use add on tools, and maybe the pdf slideshows. Anyway, since there doesn't seem to be a problem with multiple versions of elements as long as you don't try to have more than one open at once I intend to leave my 2 on when I finally get around to upgrading.

Please let us know how about your 2 to 5 experience. I am curious to know what you think.
