Hi
I have Elements 5. I have Scott's Book Photoshop E5 for Digital Photographers, and I have the Missing Manual (E4) by B. Brundage. But - now I'm looking for a book for E5 that will teach me more Special Effects, Cool and Wow things to do with my pictures. It needs to be a step-by-step approach, like Scott's books. Any recommendations?

Ruthie- Are you a subscriber here? That's where I've learned the best effects...

Yes I am a subscriber. I have learned a lot here, but I also like having a book I can always refer to. Has anyone used the book by Philip Andrews - Advanced Photoshop Elements 5 for Digital Photographers?

Scott had some "Down and Dirty" books. Not sure if he has one for 5 yet. I have one for PS 6,7 and PE3.

Here are two books that I have that I think are pretty good:
Combining Images withe PSE by Ted LoCascio. Comes with a CD with over 2 hours of video lessons. This book is all about layers, filters and textures.

PSE Maximum Performance by Mark Galer has a ton of techniques such as High Dynamic Range (combining images with different exposure values to extend the tonal range). This book comes with a DVD (not CD) and has extended video lessons as well as over 200 royalty free images to use. If you shoot RAW he does a number of editing steps in 16 bit mode before pushing the photo to standard edit mode which supports 8 bit. This book is all about getting the absolute best from your image .

These books are in step by step mode but they both assume you have a general knowledge of PSE.

Ruthie--I have the same books you do, including Andrews' new book on PSE 5. I should be receiving his advanced techniques in PSE 5 today from Amazon. It has a section on RAW workflow and other advanced topics, and at only $25 it seemed like a good deal. I'll post more after I recieve it and skim through it.

Thanks for your responses. I'll make a list and go to a bookstore to take a peek.

Ruthie - I was quite surprised when I checked our local library on line. I ordered Down and Dirty and some others - they were not for 5 but would work in 5. I found it was a good way of getting to know how I liked the author's technique.
