Solholiday,
I still have Photoshop Elements 3.0, but I did tryout the 5 version a few months ago. Based on that recollection:
Interactive is one of the 3 types of Photo galleries offered in 5. BUT, if you go that route, the share options DO NOT include burning your interactive photo gallery to DVD with Premiere Elements? I would check out the Slideshow option and its description in the Create Menu.
Check me out to see if I am right about the share options of interactive photo galleries, by going to your program's HELP
"About digital creations"
"To create a web gallery"
"To create an animated or interactive gallery"
"Sharing options for photo galleries"
My TV has a Panasonic DVD/VCR attached. When I was looking at 5, I tried the interactive photo gallery route, the way that you apparently have. Since there was no DVD option, I did the CD share. I was surprised to discover that the DVD player portion of the Panasonic, played the CD for TV viewing, but it came out looking like a jpeg CD (no frills from the interactive business).
I will be watching to see if you come to the same conclusion or whether my recollection was fuzzy.

I don't know anything about creating slideshows with Photo Galleries Interactive but I've used other software to create slideshows. I've exported the slideshows as Microsoft AVI files and imported them into Premiere Elements and burned DVDs and they came out great. Try it and see what kind of quality of picture you get on the DVD.

Solholiday,
Since you already have Photoshop Elements 5 and Premiere Elements 3 and you are intereested in a DVD-VIDEO slideshow, I would strongly urge you to investigate:
(a) Creating Slideshow in Photoshop Elements 5 using the Create Menu/Slideshow instead of Create Menu/Photo Galleries, then exporting that Slideshow to Premiere Elements 3 as a wmv. Also read up on alternatives.
AND/OR
(b) Create your slideshow in Premiere Elements, followed by authoring to DVD-VIDEO there. Many prefer to using (b) instead of (a), but see what works for you.
The above are not the only ways to get a presentation for viewing on the TV, but I would start with these ideas. Alternatives include jpeg CD, VCD if your DVD player supports VCD. As suggested by another here, you could create slideshow in another program (other than above) and import it into Premiere Elements for DVD-VIDEO production. But, you already have top of the line software to work with.
