View Full Version : PSE5 A&E palette - does not retain preferences

I have observed that in PSE5, the Artwork and Effects palette does not remember that I have set it to display anything other than "Large Thumbnail View".
When I set it for either "List View" or "Small Thumbnail View", the next time I run the program it is back at "Large Thumbnail View".
Resetting preferences (CTRL-ATL-SHIFT) has no affect on this bad behavior.
In PSE1, 2, 3 & 4, the equivalent settings are all "sticky", so I expect PSE5 to be the same.
Is there some setting I am missing which restores a default configuration to this palette when I restart the program?
Is the same thing happening to others, or is it just me?
TIA,
Byron

Byron, I seem to recall someone saying that anytime your Artworks and Effects rebuilds that it sets everything back to the default. I think they also said anytime you reset a tool it also resets the A&E pallette. I quit trying to set preference because of them constantly changing back. Glad I am not the only one experiencing it.

Kim,
I am seeing it happen if I simply open the program, change the preference, close the program, then re-open it... having done nothing else.
I really prefer the small thumbnail view, too!

Byron, I have never changed the thumbnails to small so I tried it and shut down Elements and restarted. It came back with the large thumbnails. Must be a program bug. Guess we'll have to wait and see if anyone else has the same glitch.

Kim's right - it's a bug - suggest you file a bug report here:
http://www.adobe.com/misc/bugreport.html
I did although you never get any feedback - but if enough people complain then maybe it'll get fixed in the next version (the last bug report I filed was the non-working color replacement tool in PSE4 which didn't get fixed until PSE5 :( - the previous one took two versions to fix  ).
Not the same thing but I put my Favorite actions etc in a Favorites folder in Special Effects. Then you don't lose them (oops that's another bug!).

Thanks for looking at it, Tony.
Now that you mention it, I DID lose my Favorites, too... does that happen when you add something or reset a tool, as Kim mentions?

Yup! They go too. I guess Artwork and Effects needs a bit ot fixing. You would have thought that someone would have noticed in development :(

Well, speaking of sticky stuff...hope you aren't too attached to anything you put in your favorites palette...my disc zaps them !
It's OK,,,all you need to do is use a little elbow grease and rebuild it ;)
