Suzi- I hate to break this to you but if you own two dozen watches you are a collector.

These are fun but are once again making me wonder just what is the difference between a collector and a pack rat?

I have no collections. :p We moved 4 years ago and I threw everything and have worked hard to lead a clutter free life. I am off today to take my picture. We have sun and 70 degrees. :D
Mine will be a collection of? flowers for sale at the local nursery, a collection of dead leaves, how about a collection of building materials.
I am sure I will find something.

I hope I didn't get any of these displayed upside down or sideways! My DH helped me arrange them, but he was only in the Korean Conflict! I have no idea who would have worn these, and one day may donate them to an air museum in Merced, CA.

Ellen- I see a fine line between a collector and a pack rat. When someone comes over and says "You have a lot of s#!@," I am a pack rat. When someone else comments on the same stuff with words like "Cool, interesting..." I am a collector. I see myself as a little of both. My stuff however, comes from what others throw away and I don't think I would have collections if I had to pay for the s#!@ I have!:D In summary, I see myself as a pack rat.:(

Steven - That is as good an explanation as I've heard. Are you going to post more of the stuff you've rescued?

Steven,
You obviously have the same home decor problem I do. :D

Steven- the steel can is cool but the Schmidt cans caught my eye.
I think it was the 70's but there were some swell graphics on the brew that grew. I remember several with native Americans looking wistfully at strip mines and clear cuts. A 12 pack would have a random amount of different images. We were of course just looking at the art. It was and most likely is still a nasty beer.

Where did you get those coasters/beer mats?
They aren't as popular up here as in other places.. or maybe I don't frequent the right places.:D

Gry: In looking at them I've got to guess that Rusty spent time in Europe - but I'm sure he'll tell us - they're pretty common over there - I have a few but not enough to call a collection :D

When I was in Germany/Austria (teenage vacation) they were all over the place. I had never seen them before.
You really don't come across them as much here.

Tony & Gary - you are right on...
Germany, 1960 thru 1963 in the Army. In German the coaster is called "Bier Deckel". Don't know if it's changed or not, maybe Germany's gone the way of the US and Canada with a half dozen or so mega breweries now dominating the market. But, in those days every town, even the small ones had a brewery.
When you went into a Gasthaus there was no point in asking what kind of beer they had -- they had the local, and that's all! There are over 200 in that picture with no more than 50 duplicates.
Ah, to be young and foolish again :D

Rusty,
Great collection. When I was little, we lived in Italy and traveled to Germany some. My dad has a collection of German beer mugs.

I haven't been for over 20 years but the local breweries were still going strong then.
How many could you poke your finger through?:D

steven, sorry I didn't get back to your post sooner but nasty flu bug got me. You are right all those watches must be a collection or as Ellen said could also be a pack rat. The sad thing is that only about 2 of them work. Now my husband he is the original pack rat should of done some of his stuff.
